August 27, 201312 yr Author As always, multiple months after the download version. Thanks. Good thing I just got the NGX last week. That should keep me busy until the boxed release of the 777. Nature Boy
August 27, 201312 yr Author I don't know what it is, I always prefer my airplane add ons on disc for some strange reason  . One reason I can think of straight off the top of my head is that I like to support the aviation shop near my house. But if the temptation becomes too much or I lose patience, I think I may buy the download version B) . Nature Boy
August 28, 201312 yr Author Download and burn to disk? It's not really just the disc that I want. I like to have the official physical copy of it that for some reason I really don't know why. I guess I'm old school lol. Nature Boy
August 28, 201312 yr Commercial Member Soooo.... What's wrong with the download version? Obsessive compulsions are what's wrong. ...then again, at least they won't be opening the 300th thread on why extended download costs money? I like to have the official physical copy of it that for some reason I really don't know why. ...but it's not quite official. It's through a reseller. Kyle Rodgers
August 28, 201312 yr Soooo.... What's wrong with the download version? Some of us especially the younger folks don't have credit or debit cards, I remember having to buy most of my addons at a regular store when I was 15 since I did not have a card and my folks wouldn't let me use their card. Now its a different story but I still look at things from another perspective. Alex Jevdic KORD/KHOT/KPWKA<380 love at first flight
August 28, 201312 yr Two things to note: 1) From the download version all your hard-earned money goes to developing PMDG. Buying boxed means, a part of your money also goes to publishing Aerosoft. (I want 100% of the price I paid placed at PMDG.) 2) A box will be produced only when all updates/patches/servicepacks are done - that will take months after release of the download version. What happened to AVSIM
August 28, 201312 yr It's called freedom of choice, what your grandparents forte and died for in 2 world wars. Roll on the box version.. James (jaydor) "Let me X-Plane where I fly in 2020"
August 28, 201312 yr Commercial Member Generally, the boxed version of a product pays for advertising and marketing the product. The download version doesn't do that. When Flight1 or Aerosoft for example, agree with a developer to publish the product in box format, the box then gets listed in catalogues, on Amazon, in retail stores etc and that brings a larger market than 'net-savvy' download customers. There is also an element of trust in users that if they purchase the box, they won't have problems with corrupted downloads, lost keys etc. Publishing a product is a team effort between a developer and a publisher.
August 28, 201312 yr True. With a boxed product we also pay for printed manuals and, maybe, translations of English documentation, an additional tutorial, whatever. Still my money will go to PMDG solely. What happened to AVSIM
