Simple Autogen Default change has revolutionized my FSX!

Thank you Thankyou Thankyou Bojote!!!!!!!

Fix!!

http://forum.avsim.net/topic/317839-simple-stutters-fix-for-fsx/?hl=%20fix%20%20simple%20%20fsx%20%20stutters

I swore I needed to buy a new over clocked machine to enjoy my few hundred dollars worth of FSX add ons. My HP Pavillion 2.8 ghz laptop just was not up to the task.

The fix above has revolutionized my FSX experience. I can now fly the NGX from KEWR, over the NYC, look out my window, and see a line of sky scrapers! With REX Plus clouds all over the sky! No, I am not flying at 30 fps locked, but Atleast at 16 fps (with heavy scenery, locked fps at 25) there is no disturbing stutters and i can feel like i am really flying over a suburb and its city! The best is the take off, which is nice and smooth!

Did many flybys with the A2a 377 of NYC last night too, and the view was amazing! Never could have looked out its large cockpit window and enjoyed the view of Manhattan like that before!!! Now I can really fly the world!!! Tampa was also amazing too.

This fix is a game changer on my system (pun intended). Lol!

I had already tried the Venotube Config thing.

Form reading the original post, I don't know Iif the fix works as well with add ons like GEX or Orbix.

There appears to be some controversy about it.

But all I know is that typing 8 where there was a 16 in the default Autogen.xml has revolutionized the FSX experience on my lap top!!!

I hope to get a new Over clocked desktop for FSX in the coming months, but at least I can hold off for a while given this new performance increase!

To anyone who is interested in this fix: be sure to read that entire topic because later on in that topic it is adviced to not use this tweak because it simply removes a lot of autogen... But hey, if you are happy with the results, stick with it!  ^_^

e: ^^^^ ok and there's the disadvantage, back to how it was I go...

OMG!

I was skeptical, and thought 'yeah, right, this is going to have an effect...' but now I hit the limiter at ksea whereas before I was at like 18fps

If you don't notice the visual loss, then use it. It does work.

I noticed it when I tried it years ago and didn't keep it.

i used this on my old(weak)PC, it's excelent if you don't have powerful overclocked PC. But instead of editing XML files, you should just rename default.xml or move it to a safe location in case you don't like the change, so you can revert to old autogen. If you read whole thread, Bojote has stated this in some posts later.

default.xml is located in main FSX folder/autogen. This tweak will not remove all autogen, you will still see the threes, but you can see some holes in scenery, where threes is removed(green holes :P  ). On some systems, this is the only way to use complex aircrafts

Once in a while, one of these "holy grails" of FSX tweaks pops up. A simple change in one file that promises to completely transform your simulator. Unfortunately, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

The only miracle tweak that exists is to go out and buy the best CPU, RAM and video card you can get and then overclock them as high as you possibly can. Everything else is only to be considered fine tuning.

Like I said in my first post, I realized there was probably some controversy with its use.   Also, I realize that an OC system is the way to go.  (saving for one right now!)

Still, I am getting much better performance than before on my not so great system (No scenery add ons though, just REX for weather and clouds).

Atleast, now I can land the NGX in a city airport with the city actually looking , uh, like a city, and not two sky scrapers with faded gray around it.  Oh and don't forget the slide show when landing.

Thank you sir for bringing it to my attention. I have a Q9400 @ 2.6 . Between  DX10 and this one I'm more than happy

using the aircraft ( Realair Lancair) and scenery ( Orbx New Zealand) I use most. Never been able to run autogen at

full density with default number of trees, bldgs.  Even seems to now avoid occasional blurries I used to get requiring

a refresh to clear. I'm glad you pointed it out.

Never been able to run autogen at full density with default number of trees, bldgs.

That's because you still don't run at full density autogen. You may have the slider full right now, but you are not actually seeing all the autogen because this fix removes a lot of it. So you might as well not use this fix and lower the slider. However, if you like the idea of the slider being fully right no matter what you see in the game, then keep on using this fix.  ^_^

The autogen setting Extremely Dense is just unreal, a fairytale. I simply use max Very Dense (when flying GA), and Normal or Sparse when flying airliners. That way I avoid spikes at all times.

The autogen setting Extremely Dense is just unreal, a fairytale.

I guess I love fairytales then...!  :P Even with Extremely dense autogen some forests aren't as dense as they are in real life. And with Very dense I really start to notice gaps in forests but also in cities. I guess it's also a matter of personal preference but having that slider to the full right is a must for me. I'd rather lower some other settings if needed.  ^_^

However, when I fly the 737NGX autogen isn't of much importance to me and then I also use something like Dense. Flying high and dry is a totally different game than flying low and slow. At this moment I am all into flying low and slow (and with the upcoming A2A C172 I will be flying even slower...).

Ok, so what I have found so are is that , this FIX basically allows a more enjoyable flying experience on my slow HP Pavillion laptop.

(2.4 ghz, default fsx scenery, REX Plus)

I would not say it is so much that I have increased FPS but that low FPS counts do not create slide shows.

Granted I have been able to up the Autogen and scenery. The biggest benefit has been that city environments do not kill my fps like before.

Have not noticed any missing scenery as of yet (such as missing trees ), but who knows.

The limiting factor on my system FPS wise, now appears to be REX clouds. But given what REX brings to the table I don't plan on going back to FSX default clouds anytime soon.

So if you are in the same boat. (Not so great a system) , the default FIX, maybe worth a try. It's very easy to undo anyway.

Which HP Pavilion do you own? I own the dv6 1210sa with a 2.4GHz processor, what kind of frames are you achieving in FSX with stock aircraft and what settings are your sliders on?

What I actually see is much more dense autogen with smoother performance. I previously had the setting one notch to the left

but with heavily throttled number of trees, buildings in the fsx.cfg to be "smooth".  Now a better ground appearance with smooth flying

characteristics ,  I use NI external frame limiter @ 29. It would often dip below this. Now with better ground appearance it is

maintained.  I think this has helped with blurries because the 250 GTS video card is unburdened a little. Just my experience. A

significant improvement in how the sim runs for me.

There are a few areas in Norway that gets way too dense, especially with the way too big default trees. Looks much better with FTXG trees, but still too dense here and there. I hope new and better Landclass will solve this in the future. I don't care much myself if the amount of trees are not as dense as reality. If i want 100% realism for trees, I'll have to buy a tree - simulator
