September 2, 201312 yr Moderator America's English is rather bizzare at times, it's no wonder that it is such a difficult version of "language" to master... ...after all, we are a people who drive on parkways, but park on driveways! Stuff carried on a ship is called cargo, but the same stuff on a truck is called shipment... ...such inconsistencies make us appear quite the mad hatters! :Silly: Fr. September 3, 201312 yr Author ...after all, we are a people who drive on parkways, but park on driveways! Stuff carried on a ship is called cargo, but the same stuff on a truck is called shipment... I like that. Indiana and Ohio accent change quickly further south you go one of more diverse states. This is true. Northern Indiana is kind of a Chicago Suburb and Southern Indiana is very different. I have also been to Cleveland and Cincinnati, different kind of cities as well. My favourite road trip is the east coast USA. Drive from Boston down to Georgia and amazing all the different accents you will hear when you stop for gas/food/lodging. etc South Carolina as one of my favourite states to visit. September 3, 201312 yr At my job take inbound phone calls know which part of Ohio and Indiana they are from rather quickly. Southern parts speak with some southern drawls and accent typical of Kentucky and Northern parts lose that start to sound like Chicagoland. Mississippi talk slow tell me slow down talking and New Yorkers tell me to speed up talking. Boston people letter r is missing lol.
September 3, 201312 yr o this is great regarding syrup, my wife from Brooklyn has said I pronounce it wrong. I'm from Ohio, it's sir-up. 10700k / Gigabyte 3060
September 3, 201312 yr Very interesting, thanks for sharing! I as a non-native speaker, was very surprised to learn that most of my pronounciation seems to be either the NYC way or the Souther one - which I found rather surprising, because my English teacher always cared for the "proper British pronounciation" B) Florian
