Question for MyTraffic 5.4 owners

I am contemplating buying my first FSX traffic program. I think I have narrowed in on MyTraffic 5.4. A question for anyone owning this product: Is there a way to independently control the amount of static airplanes on the ground, versus controlling the amount of planes coming and going from airports?

The AI provided by traffic programs are not "static" like those installed with some sceneries. Those spawned on the ground at airports are being prepared for their scheduled flights, and when cleared will push back and taxi to a runway and takeoff. Those which arrive, land, taxi and park may be there a while whilst turning round for another flight, or may just disappear at some time after parking, if no more flights are scheduled that day for that aircraft.

There are never aircraft just left forever on the ground.

Obviously there is a direct relationship between the air traffic and ground traffic, because they are really the same only in different stages. Larger airports with lots of available gates will have more traffic than small ones with few gates. Similarly size of gates, length of runways and so on will determine the traffic at a specific airport.

The overall traffic levels for MyTrafficX are controlled by the number of flights actually compiled into the AI files being used and the sliders in FSX. For UT2, which operates differently, traffic levels are controlled in its own interface.

Regards

Pete

Ideal Flight 10 does a great job of filling up airports with parked aircraft. Its initially the main reason I bought it.

Two very good responses and I thank you for providing this insight. If I just want to make more static aircraft at airports, is there any other way than Ideal Flight 10 to do this?

You could edit the airport file itself with an editor and place planes all around to your liking.

basically your traffic slider will determine both the amount of traffic in the air, and also the amount of traffic on the ground.  I have mine set at about 26% and with MT5.4 that pretty well fills most airports up!

That sounds interesting - so it generates static traffic? Are the models good quality and can it be used to supplement an 'active' traffic addon such as MTX or is it an 'instead of' program?

In flying into KPDX, I have my Air Traffic Density set to 46%, General Aviation Density set to 40%, and Airport Vehicle Density set to Medium. I am not seeing even one plane on the ground. I currently don't own any traffic programs. Is there some setting or something that I am forgetting to do? Very frustrating.

No, the injected parked planes are not static really. It's AI traffic that is just sitting there for a long time. Models are chosen within IF, you just tick the check box for which planes in your FSX folder you'd like to have show up at the airport.

Edit: Of course I don't need to mention that a full larger airport can do some damage to frame rates.

so you don't have any default traffic?  I guess the things to try are making sure your default traffic bgl is still there, and making sure that you haven't mixed any freeware fs9 and fsx traffic (you can use either fs9 or fsx but not both)  Default traffic density is a LOT less than MT5.4 too

Shawn,

Thanks for responding. I checked and I have a trafficAircraft.bgl in FSX\Scenery\World directory. Is this the one you are referring to? Also, in my scenery library, the Default Scenery and Default Texture are the last two entries. Any more thoughts are appreciated.

Air Traffic Density set to 46%, General Aviation Density set to 40%

At that settings there has to be a lot of traffic at PDX - I have about 30% for both sliders, and my Portland airport is pretty crowded already.

The following things come to my mind:

1) The presence of at least one FS9 traffic file, as Shawn already said --> Did you install any other traffic program (or perhaps a scenery that includes AII traffic), which could be the culprit?

2) Some sceneries do have issues with displaying aircraft models if ground shadows are enabled. --> Do you see aircraft in the air/hear hear them talk to ATC? If you do, and you have sahdows enabled, disable them and see if that fixes it.

3) MTX is missing the entry in your fsx.cfg. --> Check if "SimObjectPaths.X=MyTraffic" is in the [MAIN] section of the file.

4) MTX is missing the entry in your scenery library. --> Check if that entry exists; it is most likely just above the default scenery.

which kpdx?

which kpdx?

Are you referring to me? In that case: default, with the (possible, but I'm not at all sure) enhacements by ORBX PNW.

To the OP: I've just come across this link at the AS forums, where someone else posted a similar(?) problem with that product.

There's always freeware, then at least the traffic actually looks similar to what it should irl.
