Crash Landing in Victoria Point, Australia

Featured Replies

A couple of weeks ago a Jabiru J170 light aircraft lost power at 1100ft when flown by 18 year student pilot. The 22 year old instructor took over and they made a crash landing in a paddock. Very cool heads, watch the video from the cockpit

Nicely done. Need to search fast on where to try and land.

Wonder if the found the cause of the motor quitting? I'm guessing a major electrical failure since they didn't try to restart it.

And paddock? Must be a euro term for sheep pasture. :)

Very nice....by the book. Seeing that I am wishing we had GoPro's back when I was in Flight School. I would have recorded every flight like that.

Not sure, the report will be out soon. Victoria Point is a Suburb of the city I live in, they were extremely lucky as any suburb west from there would not have had anywhere near green areas suitable for a landing. The engine cut out very low so they did not have much glide time up their sleeve. As for Paddock, not sure about Euro, but it is certainly used "down south"... B)

I was very impressed by the coolness of the student. I read it was his first lesson..if it was, he handled that very well. The instructor earns top marks, specially when he tought of further safety for his passenger and gave him the cushions to shield himself. I keep reminding myself....the instructor was only 22 years old, but he displayed coolness, confidence and maturity well beyond his years. I wish him well in his aviation career.

Wow, great work on the pilot's part...

That was intense. Glad they made a safe emergency landing and they both looked so calm during the entire thing.
