Airlines, I beg you to start charging this fee!

Featured Replies

You realize people are doing this because airlines are charging for the bags to in the belly. Allot of this would change if airlines weren't nickle and diming people to death...

This was going on long before the baggage fees. for as long as I have been flying, and that is many years, slobs have crammed bags in the overhead bins because they are too lazy to check bags. The airlines themselves created this problem by allowing it in the first place.

I agree.  In my previous life, well before the days of baggage fees for less than 2 checked bags, I traveled extensively for work, and shorter trips were always with a light carry-on.  Since I can remember, going back decades, it's always been a fight to get overhead space if you're not an early boarder and boarding has always been slowed by those people who insist on stuffing the bins with too much stuff.

Consumers have demanded it be this way, yey for the free market and all that lark...

Yep, it's democracy in action.  People vote with their dollars, and just like at the ballot box, many will vote for what seems on the surface to be their own self-interests, even when that view is short-sighted and just plain wrong.  It's given us a world of extra-charges on airlines, Walmart and fine dining at McDonalds.  :(
