September 3, 201312 yr Charge people who carry on their suitcases. The whole "carry your bag" onboard thing has totally gotten out of control. What used to be a 20 minute boarding process now takes like 40 minutes because everyone has to drag their oversized, overweight (for overhead) bags onboard. Examples; 1. The bags don't fit in the bin, even though the person keeps trying to shove it in. Passenger=0 Physics=1. 2. Pain. Pain from being having your arm, head or leg smashed as the suitcases are being lugged down the aisle hitting any appendage in their way. 3. Convenience. Your convenience... when your small bags get moved to another bin or are crushed by some person who thinks their suitcase is more important than your possessions. 4. Physical harm. I saw a girl pull her suitcase out of the bin, didn't grab the back side and it came slamming down on an elderly mans head. Thought he was going to die. Instead he got a cup of water from the flight attendent and probably a headache and sore neck. At least the girl didn't have to wait ten minutes in baggage claim. 5. Stampedes. People now crowd the gate because they are so worried about getting space for their bin. Some scumbag shoved my wife out of the way just so he could get in line. Congratulations to the inconsiderate moron, who saved 2 seconds on boarding time by advancing two people ahead of us in line. 6. The "it's my universe" mentallity. Nevermind the line of people who are standing behind you waiting to get to their seats, as long as you have all the time in the world to situate yourself and your bags while blocking the aisle, well that's all that matters. Sheesh. Then the whole process plays back in reverse when you land. My solution would be to drop the check in baggage fee to $15 and put a $20 fee on carry on suitcases. Thanks for letting me rant.
September 3, 201312 yr Yes, people are lazy slobs. Plain and simple. The airlines could fix the situation by prohibiting roller-type bags from being carried on (lazy people love bags with wheels). That, in addition to the size requirement, would do the trick. I also don't care for the temporarily handicapped people. You know the ones I'm talking about. They stroll into the airport on their own two feet then hobble up to the counter to request wheelchair assistance so they can get wheeled on and off the plane ahead of everyone else. I'm willing to bet that the percentage of "handicapped" people is higher at the airport than anywhere else on Earth. Edit: And, no, fat and lazy is NOT a disability.
September 3, 201312 yr I think the real problem is 20kg of baggage limit (I know some airlines and some flights offer more), and allowed 8kg hand luggage. Naturally, people want to use that 8 kgs they payed for, and they need that space for stuff they didn't success to pack in that 20kg limit. Personally I hate to carry anything else than personal bag with documents, wallet... Lj. September 3, 201312 yr After what I witnessed across several flights including 2 Transatlantic flights during my recent USA trip, I could not agree more with the OP's observations. I watched carry-on cases almost the size of hold luggage occupying overhead bins that those boarding later had no room. I was lucky that the boarding system they had in use with SWA, Delta and WestJet worked in my favour and I had room for my camera bag. Rick Almeida

Man, that sounds bad,I've seen some stupid things on flights, but that takes the biscuit. Jude BradleyBeech Baron: Uh, Tower, verify you want me to taxi in front of the 747?ATC: Yeah, it's OK. September 4, 201312 yr How about a fee where if you leave your seat or row an absolute pigsty wreck you get charged a hygiene maintenance fee or something like that. Alex Jevdic KORD/KHOT/KPWKA<380 love at first flight
September 4, 201312 yr I once saw a suggestion that dogs fouling public areas should wear an electrical zapper-collar. It was modified after a while to the suggestion that dogs' owners should wear it. Overhead is not the place for hard or heavy objects so let's waive the baggage (oops) fee and insist that suitcases should have a seat of their own.
September 4, 201312 yr Its the baggage fees that are causing everyone to cram as much as possible into their carryon's, the true savvy traveler will simply offer to have it gate checked which is a free service. Alex Jevdic KORD/KHOT/KPWKA<380 love at first flight
September 4, 201312 yr I have to agree, I think the airlines should strictly enforce the baggage size and weight limits for carryons. I travel for business a few times a month and generally have only one to three days of clothing, etc. packed into a small suitcase that slides in to the overhead and takes up just the width of the suitcase. Its crazy what people are bringing on board to put up there. I have to admit though I have had to become rather strategic in order to get on the aircraft early to get overhead space. I usually get a seat in the last section of the aircraft so I get on in the first group. Travel sucks. Mark CYYZ
September 4, 201312 yr Agree. I am shocked they haven't addressed this issue a long time ago and still haven't.
September 4, 201312 yr The airlines could just charge according to a passengers total weight including their luggage and not by selling a seat. One airline has already started going this: Samoa Air - A kilo is a kilo is a kilo charging by weight is the fairest way of paying for carriage. Whether its people, baggage, freight or anything which we might want tot take or consign by air. At Samoa Air we will do our best to ensure that every passenger is afforded the same level of comfort and travel throughout their flying experience. We want to bring back Air Travel as an enjoyable experience, where you, and your baggage will always travel together. No more excess fee's are charged and no more discrimination, because as we know: A kilo is a kilo is a kilo! The Sky's the Limit! http://www.samoaair.ws/index.php/booking-2/pay-by-weight I don't have a problem with this policy. It doesn't matter if you check baggage or carry it on as they charge by how much you and all your stuff weighs. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
September 4, 201312 yr One airline has already started going this: http://www.samoaair.ws/index.php/booking-2/pay-by-weight Having lived in Samoa for a month (a great experience, wonderful people) this didn't surprise me. You realize people are doing this because airlines are charging for the bags to in the belly. Allot of this would change if airlines weren't nickle and diming people to death...
