September 5, 201312 yr Wow! thanks for finding out the mouse can cause a drop in frames. I can't believe all these years I never noticed the gain and/or loss of frames using the mouse. Since reading this discussion I have gained anywhere from 2 to 7 frames in VC mode; however I noticed no change in turning the mouse off. After years of tweaking this simple tweak is a winner. I might even pick up the T7 if my old computer can get me into double digits with some the FSDT airports using T7. September 5, 201312 yr Yes I have fsx in windowed mode on one and other programs open on the other. I always leave the mouse pointer in the VC, will have to try this! if you can, my recommendation is to move any program such as as2012 / topcat to a second client computer, particularily as2012 if you are using its weather downloads. that will increase your fps as well. you could also look at using a "game pad" such as a logitech g510 / g13 to setup 54-66 (each)keystrokes to operate more switches without the mouse .. & viewing overhead panels etc. as 2D windows on a second / third monitor. this later idea i believe increases fps because the mouse is "dormant" after ~10secs & most of the time ... ie hardly used except for a few unprogrammed "one-off" switches (eg nav lights) for now, cheers john martin
September 6, 201312 yr Another method might be to get in and change the interval the mouse pointer remains visible from whatever it is now which is around 5 or 6 seconds of mouse inactivity to maybe .5 seconds or something like that. You could have it instantly turn off but that seems like it would create a different set of problems for example causing the pointer to flicker on and off w/ subtle movements, etc. I think sliding to a 'ghost' bar would be more seamless and less complication-prone. September 6, 201312 yr I think sliding to a 'ghost' bar would be more seamless and less complication-prone. noel i think the idea of a "ghost" bar is a great idea ... but wouldn't that be with a windowed fsx, not fullscreen ?? interestingly, and only after these discussions, i have been parking my mouse on the second monitor (fulscreen on #1) clear of my 2D panels and i'm sure i'm getting better fps (3-5 more)... i wonder if this is another "ghost" !! for now, cheers john martin
September 6, 201312 yr i think the idea of a "ghost" bar is a great idea ... but wouldn't that be with a windowed fsx, not fullscreen ?? How so? What some do now, myself included, is hit the Alt key to bring up the top menu bar when in full screen mode. A ghost bar would occupy a similar location except would be 100% transparent & w/o a border so would in effect be invisible. I would find that preferable over seeing the top menu bar as it is now. September 6, 201312 yr PMDG, Ryan! Hello? Noel, why dont you PM Ryan, I think this is an excellent idea and a good start to a possible permanant sollution. I did ;o) It's not the first time I've tried to get someone who could address this to consider addressing this! Usually it's, 'it's an inherent problem w/ FSX and mouse acceleration' or some other show stopping response. I put this to RealAir as the Turbine Duke suffers greatly from this as well though it's easy to process on modern PCs now so it's less an issue. February 23, 201412 yr Anyone figure this out yet for a permanent performance boost? The statement above that this has to do with clickspots is, to the best of my knowledge, correct. There's no way to fix this within FSX. There are a couple things you can do to improve performance, however. Having your taskbar auto-hide or otherwise making your window not touch the taskbar can help if you run in windowed mode. Hiding the menu at the top (try pressing the Alt key) can also yield an FPS increase. Jonathan Monreal Visit A Flightsim Blog
February 23, 201412 yr this has been a known issue for years. If running in windows and you dont have a second monitor to move the task bar to, then simply resize the FS window to ensure it's not touching the taskbar at all. The FPS drop is from the taskbar not the mouse, at least here Jay
