Thanks for the HU. Details.

- Request for a 777 Performance Manger to lower texture, gauge and model resolution for lower-end PCs.

  • We will add this as a page in the 777 OC module in a future update. Vin says for now you can have some of the effects of a manager like this by unchecking "High resolution virtual cockpit" in FSX.

Thesis. I doubt that the 'lower-end PCs' are the ones seeing the actual issue of receiving ooms as those systems may not run the combination where the 777 then triggers the 'too much' event.

Either way, I'm happy to see that they somehow acknowledge the need to allow for adjustments in regard to the memory impact. Maybe the same poll could be run after the tool was released to gauge its success.

They state that the T7 doesn't cause OOMs so they can't offer an 'OOM fix' - it must be geared at lower-end PCs instead.

Anyhoo, on my system there are other addons eating up the remaining 3.1 GB VAS - and I don't expect this 'T7 performance/texture switch' even to free 200 MB. My conjecture is, it will be less.

The reason why I witness OOMs with the T7 at all is, because it's actually easier on frame rates than the other aircraft I fly: Better fps are tempting to move those sliders even farther to the right, which would not happen with my other, frame rates-heavier plane.

Sometimes ever-improving performance causes new discussions ...   :P

Of course. I think I forgot about those logics for a second. Thanks again, Oliver. :Peace:

"Virtual size".

Don't see that....

A classic muddle-up:

VMMap measures virtual memory in use - which is quite different from the concept of virtual address space (VAS) ...

I get OOMs regularly when I am at CYVR. Reducing my TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096 to TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024 makes it go away. The T7 is the only add-on that OOMs on me at CYVR.

If PMDG could provide some optimized textures that would be great.

But like somebody said : it is a sum total of everything you run in FSX. You cannot blame the T7 - that much beauty comes at a VAS price.

I cannot help thinking that a 2D panel with an option to not load the VC would likely go a long way towards reducing OOMs.... :-) I can dream - I am aware that it will not happen.

The T7 only has 9 1024 sized textures, the rest are already 512 or smaller. Not much else to do unless you want to resize the remaining to 512, but it wont look as good since they are already a somewhat lower resolution anyway. The only big textures are the exterior which are 4096, but you can easily resize them down to 1024 to reduce load when viewing from the outside, or just turn off the exterior model by commenting it out which is said to help a little in the VC (dont notice much difference after trying it myself).

In comparison, the T7's VC textures are already smaller than that of the NGX, unless you choose the low res version in the config manager which brings them to 1024 and smaller.

The only thing that I would think would make the T7 have a bigger footprint in the VC would be either the interior has more polys than the NGX or the "brains" of the a/c are doing a lot more in the background than the NGX.

For some reason, I dont seem to have any VAS issues in the T7. I looked at the VAS usage in both the VC and exterior at the new MMMX by T2G, with UT2 traffic at 75% and a fairly cloudy day parked at the gate and panning around, mine never went over 3.1GB of VAS usage.

I voted "Never". however this is after switching to Dx10. In DX9, I would OOM at mega airports and FSDT airports like Midway KJFK CVYR etc

Now I can fly into all airports, big or small with 75% ai. I flew into Orbx YMML with 1.2GB free Vas in the T7.

Other airports like UK2000 Heathrow and AS LFPG which are both Vas vacuum cleaners, was no problem in the T7
