Nose up during cruise for 2~3 degrees?

First if all I have to say that this airplane is awesome! Thanks to PMDG!

I have one question though, is it normal that the plane's nose is up for 2 to 3 degrees during cruise?

If I am not mistaken, that is just the normal Angle of Attack for the aircraft.

If you want less of an angle at cruise, go to the aircraft.cfg file and under "Flight_Tuning, change the Cruise_Lift_Scalar to 1.2 or 1.3. The more the Cruise_Lift, the less angle of attack. But too much affects approach attitude. I usually fly at 1.3 with all my birds with no problem.

Stephen, out of interest, why would you change this? I'd think that PMDG has made this pretty much spot on. And... what is the problem with having a positive nose pitch? I don't see what the problem is, and I can't think of any plane that's flying with a level/negative pitch either.

If you had a flat pitch, the angle of attack of the wing would still be positave (otherwise it's not making lift), so a 0° nose attitude is going to produce a decent rate of a few hundred ft/min. The faster you go, the more lift you get, but you will never get level altitude at a level attitude. It's just impossible without mounting the wings differently, and if you did that, you would need to approach the airport nose-down to achieve the 3° glidepath. Landing on the nosewheel is bad.

Who ever said it was level or had a negative pitch? It only slightly changes the pitch. You absolutely cannot fly a plane with "0" pitch. Defies the laws of flight dynamics when it comes to an airfoil.

Why on earth would you want to modify that value (unless of course, you know it is wrong)?

This is why tech support becomes such a nightmare. people screwing around with settings because they 'think'' they know what is more realistic.

Found this very interesting as I have so far carried out just 2 test flights and found that one both the angle of attack when at altitude hold is probably 5 degrees nose down (aircraft flying level). When I descend at say 800 to 1000 ft/min this goes to about 15 and looks like I am dive bombing even though the plane is n't.

 

I have not looked at those values for the Cruise_lift_scalar yet as I have not really bothered with FSX (liked my PSS777 on FS9 but had to get a new system with windows 8 that it won't work on so here I am) but will have to give it a go as it is just so wrong. Incidentally, so far I cannot get it to go over 210 knots IAS so there must be a config setting for that too I think.

Just as an update I checked the value is the cruise_lift_scalar and it is set at 1.0. I have not amended this nor do I intend to until I find a bit more information about this issue, but fix it I will eventually.
