OpenCockpits compatibility

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

First of all, my compliments for this wonderful, wonderful product. It was definately worth the

waiting.

Since I'm a user of various opencockpits modules, such as the mcp and efis, I wonder if

there is a chance that the 777 will be compatible with the modules.

I use the OCP4NGX software that let me run those modules with the NGX, but the T7 option

still doesn't work. Any information regarding if, and so, when this function will be made possible?

Niels

I am about to buy the MCP/EFIS myself...In some research I've done, I do believe they have plans for their products to work with the 777 once the SDK is released.  I think the OCP4NGX website even says that it's coming once they get the SDK.  So, I think you should be good.

Regards,

Yes I've read that, but the PMDG 747 was presented a long time before the NGX came out, however, they don't have released the SDK for the 747 yet.

I hope to get an indication about what the PMDG developers have in mind about this subject.

I do hope that they will release the SDK, because it's great to fly with those planes and modules.

There won't be an SDK for the old 747, but PMDG will bring up an completely new "B747 v2" using the advanced code they developed for the NGX and the 777. And this new 747 wil have an SDK.

I think the SDK for the 777 will come as soon as the few bugs are fixed...

Hey fellas, does anyone have any first hand experience of both the OC MCP/EFIS and the GoFlight equivalent. I'm stuck between the two and have doubts about the GoFlight module as from the limited information I have, it seems a little 'toyish.' The switches appear to be very strong and the buttons when pushed seem very plasticky. Can anyone tell me if the Opencockpits unit is any better built. Cheers...

Did a bit of research on this several years ago:

4th - GoFlight (entry level, bad rep)  $$

3rd - Opencockpits (more expandability and a knowledgeable user base)  $$+

2nd - CP Flight (EL & Pro ranges, quality, full array of modules, great CS) $$$-$$$$

1st - Flight Deck Solutions (but why not just buy a plane ?) $$$$$!!

I bought the CP Flight system, and have no complaints. It works well with the NGX and they'll release a 777 driver update as soon as the SDK shows up.

Thanks for the info Steve. There seems to be, understandably, a limited choice. The CP flight, which interests me the most is simply out of my budget, and as you say, with Flight Deck, I may as well buy a plane! GoFlight, is a no no for me, so it seems the only option is Opencockpits. Have you seen and tried the Opencockpits unit? As from what I've read, it seems to be a good bit of kit. I would just like to get some info on it's build quality.

Hi Wayne, hope you're OK. Sure, but we're still talking of kit that is £720! That's twice the price of the OC units. They are running a deal at the moment with the EFIS+MCP and it's £350!! Big difference. If I was building a specific 737 cockpit, then perhaps I may make a different choice. But the budget has to be below £450. Cheers...

Yeah great Howard just getting used to using LINDA with my warthog setup love it, steep learning curve thought lol. Hope you Are good? Yeah I see what you mean. I do like the realism of the pro version.

Howard, what did you do with the Vrinsight mcp?

Howard, what did you do with the Vrinsight mcp?

Hi Zoran, weeell... I'm supposed to have a new replacement unit sent to me as I type. I'm in Hong Kong at the moment, but returning on 18th Nov to the UK, so I hope it will be delivered shortly after my return. I am considering selling it unopened, with the idea of getting one of the MCP/EFIS units...

Never had hands on experience of the units - but the look fairly similar to CPFlight stuff when the lid is off.

I might still get an OpenCockpits FMC in due course. I was never put off by any build quality concerns.

yeah that's the good thing about simming, there is always a demand for second hand stuff

Kind of an addendum question: Will the PMDG 777 work with the Opencockpits mastercard through SIOC? I'm planning on building an MCP, but I don't want to spend the time and money if it won't work.

Thanks,

Steve
