Is The PMDG 777 Documentation Missing Important Panel Access Information

Featured Replies

Hello Steve,, Thanks for your reply. I did all the processes you suggested to the letter in the 777LR/Cargo and saved it but F10 does nothing. It appears to me that some changes work in some PCs and not in others for whatever reasons. This time, he who dares, -lost. Richard Welsh.

1) F10 could be set to something else in FS, and overriding the selection (not likely unless you set it to something else, by default it's a shortcut to the 2D cockpit view) Actually, I think that the HotKeySelect= function overrides the setting within FS so that's not likely.

Hi, Richard and Steve,

I think I may have figured it out.  The key is that Richard said his F10 key does "nothing."    It should have gone to the 2D cockpit by default (looking forward w/ no panel in the T7).  So:  I deleted the FSX Controls default assignment of F10 to the 2D cockpit, and this made Steve's recommended modification stop working.   No more overhead panel coming up.  I then restored the FSX F10 assignment to the 2D cockpit, and Steve's modification started working as well -- up popped the overhead panel.  So it seems that not only does the setting in the camera entry of the aircraft.cfg file override the FSX default setting -- it needs a default assignment of F10 in FSX (or maybe a different FSX assignment) to override.

Richard, I hope that if you go into FSX Controls and set the 2D Cockpit view to F10, it will fix the problem (and curious to see if it does).

Edit:  Seems that F10 has to be set to 2D cockpit in FSX Controls to make Steve's modification in the aircraft.cfg file work.

Mike

  • It's "missing" because that's not how we recommend that you change views/popups. Using the clickspots us the way it was coded and in some cases using Shift+Numbers can screw our products up. Try hitti

As I said in the first response, you have to make an edit to the aircraft config file. You can find this by opening your FSX folder (by default C:\program files(x86)\Microsoft\Flight Simulator X or so

I don't think it's possible to set VC views to Shift-# as those are shortcuts for 2D popup panels. You can set F10-12 by editing the aircraft.cfg file and adding "HotKeySelect=2(or 3 or 4)" in the sec

I can't seem to get a mini panel to come up using the 'w'  function.

Hello,

Where did you get that from?

And by the way, full names are required on this forum.

I bet OP is expecting a 2D panel similar to NGX... the w key is used in that camera to display and hide the 2D panel.  Of course there is none in the 777.

Ok, thanks. I couldn't find the link with the T7.
