Dawn Dusk Smoothing with Steve's Fixer

Featured Replies

Posting this in a new thread so others who do not know will see it.

 If you have this in your fsx.cfg;

DawnDusk Smoothing=1 change it to 0

Some airports will give a wet look, almost like a lake if it is set to 1 during dusk n dawn

Airports like Flightbeam and Fly Tampa.

Not all airports have this issue.

Ft Dubai works night n Day, but the Papi lights don't work in DX10. You can disable them in the dubai scenery dir

Is there any (negative) side effect to this adjustment?

Best regards,

Alexander Rietveld

yes,  your dawn-day-dusk transitions will not be smooth.  meaning your sky will change suddenly, not gradually.

Seriously...! LOL I wouldn't call this trick a fix then...!!! I wouldn't know what's worse! Luckily I don't own any of the mentioned airports. ^_^

It's not too bad.  If it didn't bother you in FS9, you should be ok B) .

What should I have called it Jeroen ? Dawn dusk smoothing set to off is hardly noticeable.  Only to the pedantic.

I'd be slightly annoyed turning it off.

Well, dx10 beta test starts now.. I wonder what steve can further do with the bug reports he will get. :)

...and just for the record I own and have tested most of the SoCAL FSDT and Flightbeam, and have never seen this anomaly. All one would do to fix it is push the slider to the left - one notch, and that should fix it.

My FT Dubai has the "billboard" PAPI, which I expected. It also (during the day) has a large, billboard-sized black rectangle above each and every runway edge light and centerline light.

Interestingly, Dubai now looks fine at night. Prior to the fixer, I was using the Steve's free DX shader patches. With those, Dubai looked good during the day, but had no runways, taxiways or aprons at night.

I know I can eliminate the PAPI "billboard" easily, but am concerned about the daytime black rectangles associated with each runway edge light. Any idea what settings in the fixer control panel might correct that, as it seems that not everyone has this issue with FT Dubai

Going to have a another look at that again Jim. I think I got rid of the black rectangles. Be right back.

No, that did not fix it Paul. When you set fsx to dawn you need to wait 5 to 8 mins, and then this happens. (Soon as the airport lights turn off.

So is this a possible bad re action to a sky texture ?

Edit:  No, can rule that out  too, tried  Rex theme Reality, and still get the lake when the aiport lights turn off.

Others have had this happen too, not just me.

Wow.. that's some pic. OK - I pasted it in for Steve's expertise and advice.

Which specific airport is this, Julian?

FlyTampa Dubai Paul. Also Flightbeam does it too In Fact, I think they all do, FT, FB etc

Of course with Dawn smoothing disabled it works fine.

I also tried disabling Reflections in the Fixer.

I have to test this. I didn't see anything like this before, but have done a full hour at a couple of other legacy airports - just not FlightBeam or FSDT. I will look at Vancouver, as it is DX10 compatible, according to Umberto and the advertizing.
