November 24, 200421 yr I'm looking for a fast (200kts+) medium to large twin. Can be either a turboprop or a piston. I have the Flight 1 Cessna 441, but am not very happy with it, or the stock King Air. So....any suggestions?? Free or pay, either/or; just should also have a decent VC that doesn't suck frames too much :-) Thanks in advance. Mike
November 24, 200421 yr Do a search on "twin prop" and you will find a few very nice threads discussing this exact topic. What exactly don't you like on the 441? It would help if you gave some specifics on what you are looking for: avionics, documentation, etc. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
November 24, 200421 yr I'm not sure why you're unhappy with the 441. I tend to favor the 421...it has a great VC and even my P3/800 can manage the fps well.-John
November 24, 200421 yr I would go for the Aeroworx B200 super KingAir as it has a very realistic feel VC, is user friendly which means you can hand fly and operate the aircraft systems and Nav.Above all it is one of the best aircraft at making you feel you are really there.Apart from that the 421C or the PMDG 1900Peter
November 24, 200421 yr Howard 500, Free right here on Avsim. If you don't like this one, you are a very hard pilot to please.
November 24, 200421 yr Is the Howard 500 able to cruise at 200kts plus? You know, I completely forgot the Howard 500 was out there...-John
November 24, 200421 yr Hi John,The Howard 500 will give better than 260 knots, the RW pilot will descend at over 350 knots although that is exceeding the VNE as posted in the documentation.Real slick bird, quite an enthusiastic thirst for fuel, would love an opportunity to go up in the real one someday... long as someone else anted up for the fuel bill!Zane Dr Zane Gard Sr Staff Reviewer AVSIM Private Pilot ASEL since 1986 IFR 2010 AOPA 00915027 American Mensa 100314888
November 24, 200421 yr >Is the Howard 500 able to cruise at 200kts plusYes it can...it has two monstrous Wright radials pulling it through the air. It cruises at ~200 KIAS at FL180 and is capable of much better than that if you want to burn the extra virtual gas. :-)I find myself going back to it a lot lately. Very, VERY well done...this one is better than many of the payware birds. November 24, 200421 yr AeroCommander 680 by Milton Shupe and his team. An oldie, but, nevertheless, a goodie. Capable of over 200 KIAS. One of the best freeware smaller twins imo. Fantastic exterior model - super panel and cockpit views.Adam
November 25, 200421 yr Hey thanks for the heads up on the Howard 500, what a great all around package! Also want to give "props" to the aeroworx B200, I find that plane to be one of the most immersive paywares out there. __Josh

Fantastic exterior model>- super panel and cockpit views.>>AdamHmmmm, but only if ya has favorable wind conditions. More realistically, it'll do an honest 190 to 195 even in a bit of a headwind. This is one of my favorites. The C441 I bought also and also was a bit disappointed with it. Its performance might be fairly exact and true-to-life but I found it a weentsy bit doggish. YMMV, of cuss!
November 25, 200421 yr I didn't want to turn the discussion into one of the F1 441, but since you asked...The flight model is very poor. I realized this immediately when I found I had to force the plane onto the runway. I went into the F1 forums and found that there was a known issue with the elevator trim; I fixed that but was still having trouble. Try this scenario if you don't believe me: Set the plane with one notch of flaps, and establish power and trim so you get a 700-1000 fpm climb at abut 120 kts (no autopilot!!). Now, pull the throttle back. The plane will continue to climb at the *same rate* while the airspeed bleeds away until stall when it finally goes into a spin. Totally against all physics. No plane can maintain lift with decreasing airspeed. I finally figured out that the behavior only happened with flaps. I finally went into the cfg file and decreased the lift vector on the flaps by about 60%. Flies much more realistically, but I paid for this plane! The VC is fine, but I note the fps with it is much less than with the PMDG 737! Mike
November 25, 200421 yr Thanks for all these suggestions. I was looking for some quick pilot reviews and these really help rather than plowing throught the entire library, downloading and then test flying each and every one. Is ther F1 ATR really as good as people say? After my experience with the 441 I am a bit leary of their other planes at the moment, though I couldn't live without Ultimate Traffic.
