October 12, 201312 yr Last night I spent a bit of time looking at what new sceneries and addon planes I might want to pick up...I was struck by something. We usually call flight simulation a hobby. And I use to be an avid stamp collector and I thought of the parallels....here is an excerpt from a website that describes the joys of stamp collecting...I have substituted flight simulation....see if you would agree. The Joy of Stamp Collecting Flight Simulating Stamp collecting Flight simulating is a social hobby. It provides pleasure to the collector flight simmer and brings people of like interests together. Collectors Flight simmers who meet online, at a stamp flight sim show or through a local club often form lifelong friendships. The world of stamps flight simulation is a common denominator that brings together the old and the young, the experienced collector simmer and the novice hobbyist, the boardroom CEO and the long-haul trucker. Stamp collecting Flight simulating cuts across socio-economic, racial and cultural boundaries. The joy of collecting flight simulating, the sharing of knowledge and technique, the opportunity to learn may make for some strange bedfellows, but it forms the common bond that binds collectors flight simmers. Stamp collecting Flight Simulating can be an expensive hobby but it doesn't have to be. You can get started with a minimum of inexpensive supplies. You can collect expensive stamps addons or this week's offering at the post office AVSIM library. You can collect new stamps addons in mint condition or used stamps addons friends save from developer their sales letters. As a hobby, stamp collecting flight simulating is what you make it and will be different for every collector simmer. That's part of the joy of collecting flight simulating, sharing experiences and tips with those just starting out. Together let's welcome a new generation into the community of stamp collectors flight simulating. I'm just saying!! Bryan Wallis aka "fltsimguy" Maple Bay, British Columbia Near CAM3

October 13, 201312 yr Moderator It is a good hobby and more fun then collecting stamps in my POV Educational as well. You not only learn about aviation, but also computers, weather, geography, navigation, and many other things. I have a lot of hobbies, but flight simulation is my favorite and longest lasting hobby that I regularly remain active in. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

October 13, 201312 yr Author We need to keep this in mind for when that first time simmer hits the site and catches us arguing like fools! Thanks, Ron LOL...passionate hobbyists. I'd can't really say one hobby is higher priority than another. Today is gorgeously sunny and if my wife was available we would have ht the golf course...but today is taken with my granddaughters who get the highest priority any day of the week.....last thing I would be doing is simming. I love doing digital image, video work but usually its weather dependent. If I get up and its raining cats and dogs then indoor hobbies seem to get the priority. October 13, 201312 yr I guess in a way this can be replaced by many hobbies, but it certainly is a good find and also a hobby I love to do "If flying was the language of man, then soaring would be it's poetry"
