October 29, 201312 yr How many of you use a joystick for the NGX, and how is it? My saitek yoke recently broke, I didn't like it that much anyways, so I was considering re-buying my old logitech 3d joystick, or snatching an x52. I haven't flown the NGX with a joystick though, how is it? Is it better in your opinion flying it with a joystick than a Yoke? Thanks
October 29, 201312 yr Moderator Been flying my airliners for 10 years with a joystick, now an X52 and like it since I fly choppers once in a while. I would like to try a yoke sometime but due to space restrictions haveing to sit farther back from my desk, its not an option. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
October 29, 201312 yr I tried the NGX using the warthog joystick and it just felt sooo wrong... I went right back to a yoke, and got the GF 737 Yoke... Soo much better than any stick.. Still kept the warthog stick, as might wel use that for the Airbus Xtended.. Richard... Amateur Pilot and UK Web Hosting Guru 🙂
October 29, 201312 yr it is quite flyable on a stick. i use a logitech extreme3d pro which has throttle slider and rudder mapped to the twist.. it doesn't handle too much differently than any other of the tubeliners out there. i think it might just be a case of being used to it. probably my only complaint (and this applies to all planes, not just the ngx) is that the throttle throw range is pretty small so it can be hard to make fine adjustments. as far as how the feeling compares, i can't really say, similar to jimburke's situation i don't really have space for one in my computer setup so it's never been something i had a chance to try. cheers -andy crosby

Yeah I agree, I just tried to do a few flights with the Dash 8 and the NGX with my old joystick and it just didn't feel right. I'll just go ahead and repurchase the Yoke.

October 29, 201312 yr I agree Matthew, a yoke gives better control with "either hand" whereas a stick is one handed only, so can be akward if you need to switch hands.. The warthog stick is seriously awesome, in more ways than I can ever describe, and I so much wanted to "stick" at it [PUN ALERT] but I often found that when holding the stick, I had a tendancy to lean on it ever so slightly without realising, which is difficult to notice, but with the yoke, you cant "not notice" as the slightest movement is very noticable. I'm keeping the warthog stick though for when I can try out the Airbus Xtended.. Richard... Amateur Pilot and UK Web Hosting Guru 🙂
October 30, 201312 yr I've had my MS FFB2 stick for about 10 years now. Best 106 dollars I ever spent. I'm so used to it now it doesn't matter if the real acft has yoke, side stick, or center stick, it handles so well. I always disable the FF so the stick is loose. Feels more realistic for small planes. And yea I fly NGX. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
