November 24, 201312 yr Hey guys With the new sim imminent now, I was wondering what type of install is everybody gearing up for? My fsx is on a dedicated 250GB SSD which is half used up and I don't want to install P3Dv2 there. Ipresume like fsx you will want to install it in its own dedicated drive? 250GB or even 500GB SSD? November 24, 201312 yr Commercial Member I've got a 512GB SSD ready and waiting for P3Dv2. It will sit right next to my P3Dv1.4. After I make virgin folder backups of everything I will clear out all 1.4 and just use v2 on the drive. Gonna test my Addon Folder directly from 1.4 to 2.0 to see what works directly over without reinstalling or reassigning. See how lucky I get. Test with my 2GB 670 to see how she works. Then decide what/if a new card is in order. counting down the hours... November 24, 201312 yr Just ordered a 500GB SSD for P3D V2....will join from FSX, but FSX stays alive on my SSD Nr.1 :-)
November 24, 201312 yr I will put it on my dedicated 125 GB SSD which had FSX on it. I don't use that many addons so 125 is MORE than enough for me!
November 24, 201312 yr It'll be installed on my 1 tb hdd next to fsx, skyrim, the os and everthing else on my system if I see proof that an SSD will increase my FPS or Texture loading ie blurries then I'll buy a SSD or just get a dedicated 1tb hdd for p3d ATP MEL,CFI,CFII,MEI. November 24, 201312 yr Is there an installation guide anywhere for someone coming from FSX. Can you just delete FSX and re-install add-ons into P3D? Or do you have to have FSX still on your drive. Confused? Phil Mosley - Rotation Films http://youtube.com/rotationfsx @RotationFilms

Confused? Id keep fsx till you know everything is working right because p3d needs some of the sounds and effects from it to work with some addons. ATP MEL,CFI,CFII,MEI. November 24, 201312 yr Moderator It's not a "binary choice!" I currently have FS2000, FS2002, FS2004, FSX+A, P3D v1 installed on one of my dev machines! P3D v2 will be installed right along with all the rest. Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

I have a 250 GB SSD that my OS is on and everything else (FSX). My system came with a 2 tb hhd for storage. If I install P3D on the hhd that does not have a OS on it, how does that work? Or will it even work? Pardon me for my tect savy stupidity. Regards Lamar Wright
November 24, 201312 yr I just did a fresh install of Windows 8.1 on my 256gb SSD, which is pretty much my OS + flight sims install. Right off the bat I'm only going to have P3D installed, unless some of my favorite addons without specific P3D compatibility have issues. In that case I'll re-install FSX just for those addons.

That will work: it doesn't matter where you install P3D (or FSX for that matter). It is adviced to NOT install FSX into the default Program Files folder on your OS disk and I presume this will be the same for P3D. P3D will probably load a bit faster from the SSD but other than that it doesn't matter where you install it.
November 24, 201312 yr Author Looks like a dedicated SSD is the way to go. Now its a question of 256 or 512? I do plan on upgrading to an all Orbx world (ie Global/Vector/openLC)plus I will need to upgrade the default world mesh in P3Dv2. Add to that future airport and airplane addons...$$$...
