777 has become completely unusable in my computer.

Featured Replies

Hello Team and greetings.

I've been a happy user of the 777 until a could of weeks ago, when it started to become unusable for me.  Here is the sequence of degradation:

1.  When the 777 was released, I was one of the first to order and install.  The aircraft performed well and very smoothly.  I was able to add several liveries, update Ops Center, and update FMS data without issues.  Loading times were normal.

2. As of two weeks ago (give or take), when I select the 777 from the aircraft menu (regardless of livery or 777 type), the aircraft spins but it struggles to spin - as if a performance or graphics issue was going on.  I've tried selection of all other aircraft I have and no issues were observed - only with the 777.

3.  Upon launching a flight, the loading bar would not go past 5-6% and eventually FSX would either "bomb" or I would have to kill it and start over.  If I do this with any other aircraft, the issue does not happen - only happens with the 777.

4.  I've re-installed the aircraft 3 times and every time I re-install, I am able to at least get the flight to load, only for it to "bomb" after a minute or two.  The simulator is unusable when launching any flight with the 777.

Please let me know what k,ind of information you may need to look into this.  Thanks in advance.

Dennis

Sincerely,

Dennis D. Müllert

A couple lessons in technology here:

  1. Reinstalls are rarely ever the answer. Sometimes they can end up causing more issues than they're attempting to solve.  People offer it up as a "fix" way too often.  Ignore that - and preferably - smack them a couple times for suggesting it (unless you've exhausted all possible solutions).
  2. If it worked, and then stopped working (or started behaving poorly), it was probably caused by you, either directly or indirectly.

Directly: changing a configuration/setting - either on Windows, FSX or the graphics card

Indirectly: installing another program that somehow interacted.

Hey Folks!  Thanks all for your replies.

Highmemfix=1 is there.

I've recreated the FSX.cfg file and the issue persists only with the PMDG 777.

Going to check the Flight-1 registry fixer.

FYI - no changes have been done to my computer in terms of fsx.cfg changes, or major additions or changes to the simulator.  I will report as soon as I get to the bottom of this.

Thanks!  Dennis

Dennis D. Müllert

Hi, Dennis,

What does the opening screen of FSX look like, before you select any aircraft?

Hey Mike!  Thanks for reaching out.

Normal - as usual.  Opening screen takes me to the "Free Flight Screen" to select aircraft and flight.  Nothing unusual.  This is really elusive.

Thanks!  Dennis

Hi, Dennis,

I guess I could have been clearer.  Does it display the Ultralite/Friday Harbor default flight?

Also, what 777 startup panel state are you using?

Thanks,

Mike

Hey Mike!

Yep - The usual, Ultralight/Friday Harbor flight as default.  In terms of the startup panel state is Dark and Cold.  The 777 issue is manifesting itself as early as the aircraft selection screen where the selected airplane spins around.  Previously once one of my 777s were selected as the aircraft, it would spin smoothly - now it spins like tac, tac, tac, tac, and not smoothly as the rest of my aircraft.

Funky!

Dennis

Hi Dennis,

Try creating a new default start up flight using the default trike, and see what happens. The T7 being such a complex aircraft, it is not so forgiving if you have a corrupted start up state.

Try creating a new default start up at a default airport, on the runway and then see if problem persists.

Hi, Dennis,

If this is the C & D panel state supplied by PMDG with the 777, it is known to be buggy, and you should not use it anymore.  If you have your own panel state, but you made it by starting from the PMDG C & D state, likewise you should not use it anymore.  It's best to make your own custom panel state starting with one of the PMDG turnaround states.  Also, you can delete the startup panel state.  The next time you start, it will open with engines running and systems on.  From there you can create your own panel state, including a C & D one.

Another thing to check:  other users have had persisting problems because they keep starting up either with the same flight or the same panel state (not necessarily the PMDG C & D one).  Sometimes a glitch gets saved into one of these.  So make sure you remove whatever panel state you have in there using the CDU panel state menu (just delete whatever is in there -- you can always put it back later if it's not the problem).  And start with a new situation, not by loading an existing flight.  See if any of this helps.

I think your post was more comprehensive and detailed than mine Mike. Thanks for the info on the panel states, good to know for the future.

Hi, Julian,

Thanks.  You also have a good idea that I didn't think of.  But if Dennis is using the PMDG C & D state he should start there, as it's known to be a source of problems.  Also, several people have had various issues which turn out to happen only when a certain flight is loaded or a certain panel state is used.

Disagree in cases of really bizarre stuff like this. This isn't an issue we're seeing/tracking from anyone but him. I actually think a full Windows and FSX clean install is probably the best next step for him - if that doesn't work I'd point the magnifying glass toward hardware.

Hi, Ryan,

I hate to disagree with you, but the O.P. says this issue is 777 specific.  At least let him try some simple fixes before he takes such drastic steps.
