ASN Simconnect will not function

Recommended Posts

Hi Damien

I have Simconnect working perfectly on AS2012 but when I installed ASN and changed the Simconnect port to 445 it never works, just says waiting for Simulator, I have changed the config file on the client and the server, have no idea why it refuses to work, I also have all firewalls of whilst I am troubleshooting, any ideas

Help AVSIM continue to serve you!

Turn off your anti virus software, or at least get it to ignore the whole of the FSX folder structure. During beta we had problems with AVG stopping ASN working properly, once the exclusion was made the problem went away.

Yep Anti virus already off on the client and the server, AS2012 works fine on port500 but no response from Simconnect on port 445 for ASN, no idea why very frustrating

Leave the port as it was before, if simconnect was working there is nothing for you to change, it should just work, presuming its the SP2 version of Simconnect you have installed. If you still have problems after trying that I suggest having a read of the official forums.

Yeh I left it on port 500 AS2012 works fine but nothing for ASN, for some reason I am banned from the official forum so have sent a request in for assistance, very strange issue. I have SDK1A installed are you suggesting I may be on a lower version of Simconnect

Hi Wayne,

SimConnect should not be changed to 445.  We use 445 for ASConnect, not SimConnect.  SimConnect should remain at 500 in this case.

Does not even work on 500 yet still works for AS 2012 if I fire that up, connects to FSX and injects the weather via simconnect, but nothing when using ASN

Hi Fasouli

Firewalls are actually off on both machines, I have spent hours on this dam think trying to solve this, it does not make sense why it works with AS 2012 and not ASN

Ok Damien I am back on the correct forum LOL, where would I find Sp2 for Simconnect I looked on the internet but cant find it

You just need to install FSX SP2 or Acceleration SDK then run the simconnect.msi on your client machine where ASN is located. The file is inside one the the SDK folders on the FS pc, copy it across to your client machine and run it.

You install the FSX SDK from your FSX discs, then you get the SDK updates (1a and then 2) from Microsoft.  I take it you are already on 1a, so you only need SP2:

http://www.microsoft.com/Products/Games/FSInsider/downloads/Pages/FSXSDK-SP2Update.aspx

Once you have the SDK installed and updated, in the SDK folder, there is a SimConnect.msi file in SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\lib subfolder.

That is what you need to run on the client.  Isn't SimConnect fun? :)

thanks for that, I do have acceleration pack installed and it does say not to install the SDK update if you have acceleration installed, confusing. Assume once I install the updated simconnect msi on the client that should be it as I already have it working with SDK1a

In that case the SDK files for Acceleration are also on the disk, you must install that version and not the sp2 version linked to above in a previous post. Just install the acceleration SDK on top of SP1a. Then copy the new Simconnect.msi across to the client PC and run it. Technically its shouldn't matter whether you use the SP2 or Acceleration Simconnect.msi on the client machine as they are both cross compatible, but its better to use the exact same version for best compatibility for all your other addons too.

I have the same problems.

I have installed all versions of simconnect but ASN just sits there say "waiting for simulator" or it just don't recognise sim connect AS2012 happily connect whenever I load It up.

SP2 simconnect client needs to be installed on the client machine.  Several others with this issue have resolved it by installing the simconnect sp2 client simconnect.msi file accordingly.  Please try this, and if you continue having problems, please open a ticket at support.hifitechinc.com along with a full log export (tools, export logs) and we'll try and get you sorted.  Thanks!

To have a second  app connected with FSX via SimConnect (having already one working) one has to "add" text lines to define the additional port in the already existing SimConnect.xml file, instead of replacing the port on the existing one. That is the way I got Plan-G vest 3 working in addition to AS2012

Well suchw, I have tried everything, uninstall, reinstall, following the guides on this site and theirs, my AS2012 no longer connects because of all this and I'm sorry I didn't just try the trial version first before purchase but its a lesson learnt.

Right I have sussed it.

What I had to do:

I restored my client an earlier time (don't know how significant that was for me, hopefully no one else to has to but I did it anyway)

un-install SDK and re-install the whole lot.

some time before this if you have a working AS2012 on the client, you can use that to see if the simconnect it find is actually SP1 or SP2, mine was saying SP1 (don't know how that happened)

After install of SDK SP2 on server, install resulting simconnect on client.

Next check to make sure this line if saying "Protocol=Auto" (don't ask!)  in simconnect.cfg, is now saying "Protocol=IPv4".

Hope it helps.

Worked for me anyway
