December 23, 200421 yr I fly mostly in the U.S. (90% of the time) and I have been thinking about getting these textures. Are they worth it? I have no experience with FScene so any pros/cons would be much appreciated!Thx! Ark -------------------------- I9 9900K @ 5ghz / 32GB G.Skill (Samsung B) / Aorus Master Mobo / EVGA GTX 2080Ti FTW 3
December 23, 200421 yr I think there is some demo textures around so you can check them out. Personally they are too vibrant and cartonish for my taste. Some folks really like them. lok for the demos in the library, last day or two.hornit
December 23, 200421 yr I dl'd the demo and liked what I saw, but it only covers a tiny part of the Midwest, IIRC. I'd really like to know the differeces between the East Coast and West Coast textures. I'm not over the Midwest that often. :) Ark -------------------------- I9 9900K @ 5ghz / 32GB G.Skill (Samsung B) / Aorus Master Mobo / EVGA GTX 2080Ti FTW 3
December 23, 200421 yr Did you look at FSGenesis web site?I use Justin's products and I am very satisfied.Roger Roger See my specs in my profile
December 23, 200421 yr Lennarts textures are more natural so why not use them. If you want to improve the areas more, then mesh is best. Fsfreeware has tons of it :-).Chapel
December 23, 200421 yr Yep, I am a Galaxy member. :)I LOVE FSGenesis products. They truely add that special something to FS. :) Ark -------------------------- I9 9900K @ 5ghz / 32GB G.Skill (Samsung B) / Aorus Master Mobo / EVGA GTX 2080Ti FTW 3
December 23, 200421 yr I love them. They add a lot of atmosphere to the scenery, especially in combination with high resolution mesh.I know they're not the cheapest (though there's a discount at the moment) but well worth it.FScene alone does more for FS (especially if you fly mainly GA) than does a far larger investment in airport sceneries.
December 23, 200421 yr Three components that are completely different but make a wonderful visual experience. FS Genesis 38 meter between elevation points mesh. Check for free stuffLennart's new landclass textures - just starting and freeYou retain Autogen (improved by Lennart) and the frame rate hit is almost nil. Add in American Data roads (FSGenesis site) and you now have roads and streams running through valleys and not looking like slime on the sides of hills ($15). Waterways and coastlines will be released soon.Examine these items and see if you do not agree that the three together bring reality closer without a big outlay of cash!Dick Boley @KLBE regards, Dick near Pittsburgh, USA
December 23, 200421 yr Frankly - out of all of them I like BlueSpehere textures bets. And they are free.Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2 Michael J.
December 23, 200421 yr I have the USA textures but I have reverted back to default because1. The Autogen does not line up with the textures. They really look their best without autogen but then, the whole point of texture tile based scenery in FS is the ability to use Autogen. This problem got more obvious after the FS9.1 patch since I could enable the addiional default.xml objects without the performance hit. 2. They are not fully compatible with the FS Genesis USA landclass. This landclass addon uses other textures, not included in the USA pack. So the landscape looks a bit strange sometimes as it mixes the dark and colourful FScene textures with the much lighter default textures. -
December 23, 200421 yr Thanks for all the comments everyone. It is very much appreciated!Very interesting JimmiG. I use the FSG Landclass so I'm glad you chimed in here! The reason I'm not using Lennart's textures is because when I installed them I could not load a flight any longer. Tried installing them a few ways and it yielded the same effect. :( Ark -------------------------- I9 9900K @ 5ghz / 32GB G.Skill (Samsung B) / Aorus Master Mobo / EVGA GTX 2080Ti FTW 3
December 24, 200421 yr I tried the demo and thought the colors not very real life, Im a real pilot so trust me on this one. They are nice to look at but I thought after a while I'd like a bit more realism. I tried Lennarts textures but I personally think Bluespheres are as good or better. Lennarts are great for flying in the northern lattitudes but Bluesphere's tweaks look more real to me. I will stick with Bluesphere for now. My two cents.Hornit
December 24, 200421 yr I used the Bluespheres a while back and loved them.I had actually forgotten all about them until I saw it mentioned in this thread again. Hornit, IIRC, didn't the Blueshperes have a few different choices with regards to view distance and whatnot? Which, in your opinion, do you find to be the most realistic. I too fly but haven't in a LONG time. The only thing I fly on now are airlines and don't pay much attention to what's going on outside besides landings and takeoffs.Thx for the comments so far! December 24, 200421 yr Hello, my 2 cents : Yes they are very good looking, especially when mixed with FSGlobal2005, it becomes outstanding. -Jerome "In thrust we trust"
December 24, 200421 yr My vote goes for bluesphere, and "2004_wood_desert.zip", an excellent freeware package available here on Avsim. They are really good in my opinion. With all due respect to the two authors, FS Scene are too colourful in my opinion, and Lennart's are very good but colour saturation a little high for my taste. This whole area is always very subjective of course. It's good that we have such a choice, and much of it free.
