ASN hotfix and DX10 fixer - flashing screen during rain/snow

Featured Replies

I just installed the update and I am pleased to see that the flashes are gone.  The only problem now is that the snow is just awful.  Thick black lines that look nothing like snow.  Paul, perhaps you could post your rain settings for me to try out and see if I can improve the snow a little bit.  thanks!

Also, still getting the occasional flashing (no precip present)....I think this is cloud flashing, any ideas?  (running Rex4 and ASN....and installed the ASN fix per its suggestion...I think it added something to my cfg but forget the details at the moment).

No nothing about bkg.bmp when I run the Fixer (Is that the same as the controller?)

Oh dear. The black flashing is back!

I've since uninstalled DXfixer and ASN. Then reinstalled ASN and the latest DXFixer after replacing the SHADERS folder with the default ones.

I have "hide texture change" ticked in the fixer but it doesn't appear to make any difference.

Regards

Same size in my case - I have flashing in rain. Just using ASN with DX10fixer in ENGM - flashes every few seconds. :(

If it helps I checked in Photoshop and both the bkg.bmp files in the DX10fixer folder and in my main FSX folder are black and match exactly as far as I can see.

Thanks Paul!  Will I get the latest version if I log into my account at FSS and re-download my original purchase?  Do I need to uninstall the version I have now before installing the new version, or just simply download and run the new installer?

Thanks,

John

I think it's best to uninstall the libraries in your fixer first, the uninstall it. Then restart and install the new version and install the libraries again. But am sure Paul or Steve will confirm.

I've been twiddling and have got rid of the black flashing! I had another file in my main FSX folder called BKG.ORIG so I backed up the other one and renamed BKG.ORIG to BKG.BMP and the flashing has gone. It's 2,305 KB.

Update:

Flashing is still visible but I've reduced the visual effect of it by making a new transparent BMP file in Photoshop and using that as BKG.BMP instead of the black one in the main FSX folder. If anyone wants to try it let me know of somewhere I can upload to and will update with a link. But as always BACK UP your old BKG.BMP.

Cheers

Adam

I am afraid that that will break DX10SF and some sceneries !

DX10SF uses a specially coded bkg.bmp which it can test for and take appropriate action.

This is important for legacy sceneries and aircraft - if you change it you may well find opaque cockpits and all sorts of problems.

Also many sceneries and aircraft have missing textures - if the texture is dark then its easy to miss that its missing in DX9. It was more obvious in DX10 because the default bkg.bmp was blue. This is why I changed the colour in DX10SF.

Thus the DX10SF bkg.bmp serves two purposes - it is approximately the same colour as DX9 uses when displaying a missing texture and DX10SF can detect it and take action.

I have altered the rain shader to test for the DX10SF bkg.bmp and if it sees it then it doesn't display anything - this is meant to avoid the black flash.

However if anything changes the bkg.bmp then this test will fail.

The correct bkg.bmp should be 3073Kb and dated 18:08 19/01/2013 GMT (the time will change with time zone)

You can find a copy in the DX10SF installation directory.

I suggest that you put the correct copy in your FSX directory and then test.

Oops!

looking at the code I think I think that I have the test the wrong way round - so having got the correct bkg.bmp in place then set Hide Texture Change to unticked the default which will hide the texture change.

I will change the label to be Don't hide texture change in 1.4!

Steve- thank You for the information. Unticking it and going to check the effects right away

Ah! OK think I'll uninstall ASN and the fixer and start again then.

So when I come to reinstall the fixer I should NOT tick the "Hide Texture Change" window.

I didn't reinstall anything, just unticked it and seems to be fine.

Steve - You are THE MAN. :)
