It seems like just a little while ago 580's were the ultimate card. Now people are dumping them. Next year we'll probably be dumping titans!

To be fair the 580 has been a fine card. It's done me proud the past couple of years!

Now for a real amateur's question; the 580 and 770 boards have exactly the same power connectors right? (8 pin and 6 pin)

Another amateur question. Will the PCI Express 3.0 cards work in a PCI Express 2.0 x16 motherboard?

They do. And while in theory PCIe 3.0 would be much faster, in reality the difference is more or less negligible. I use a GTX 770 with an i7-950. Its motherboard can't support PCIe 3.0 either, but everything works fine and if I compare results with other more up-to-date system there is nearly no difference.

Thanks for that Longranger. I have been using a 2GB GTX 560 for quite a while actually it does quite well for its age. I really need to upgrade my whole system, but that will be a bit longer before I do.

Yes. And you really don't even have to worry much about the bandwidth. Modern cards are not really even reaching the 2.0 max yet

Cheers. Once again the internet saves me having to read the manual.

Hello,

I would like to change my current GC an old GTX570.

From your experience, which card performs better in X-Plane X, NVidia or ATI, in Windows 7 ?

I've read I need a card with a lot of RAM, at least 4Gb.

An nVidia GTX680 with 2 GB's works very well, in both XPX and FSX.  I'd think that a 780 with 3 GB's will be a good deal with the 8xx series comes out this year. You might want to wait for that event.

Cheers. Once again the internet saves me having to read the manual.

I am not so sure how fast and how far the 780 will drop. It's chip is rather big. This is one of the advantages of the 680/770/760 generation. Its Die was fpr NVidia extremly small.
