January 12, 201412 yr I just booked 8 flights and a pretty good variety... Wellington to Auckland - Air New Zealand 737-300 Auckland to Vancouver - Air New Zealand 777-200 Vancouver to Toronto - Air Canada A319 Toronto to Chicago - Porter Airline Dash 8 Chicago to Toronto - Porter Airline Dash 8 Toronto to Los Angeles - Air Canada A319 Los Angeles to Auckland - Air New Zealand 777-200 Auckland to Wellington - Air New Zealand 737-300 Not a bad itinerary but I would have preferred a 747-400 from Auckland to Vancouver as they still have a few left in service. That would have been my last chance to fly on one. Those ANZ 777's will be cool as they have various Hobbit and All Black themes. The 737-300 are also being phased out so probably the last chance on those too. By the time I get through that trip that will be enough flying for a while. January 12, 201412 yr Mathew, The real world Air New Zealand 747-400 is a nice bird with a great entertainment system. But, you can't loss with the 777. If it's entertainment system is anything like the Emirates 777 you are taking a step up.
January 12, 201412 yr Author Yes the fit out on the 777's is better then the old 747's. I was on a 747-400 from Vancouver to Auckland 2 years ago so that will most likely be the last time I was on one of those. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
January 12, 201412 yr Author I think the special liveries are only the 773's, not the 200's? I think that is true. The ones used on flight NZ1 Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
January 12, 201412 yr Wow, I'm jealous. Vacations are an exciting event to look forward to, but they are even more thrilling for us airline fanatics, it's a double whammy of sorts! I remember my last flight on a 747-400, on BA118/119 between EGLL and VOBL (Bangalore India) back in 2009. I've been to India three times in the past 10 years, on a BA 777-200 in 2006, 747-400 in 2009, and the 777-200 this past July. It's great fun to replicate the flights from 2009 in the PMDG Queen while it was all the rage then, and 777 a month or so before the PMDG rollout. Shame that you will miss out on the Queen, but the 777 is a fun ride. There is nothing like experiencing an aircraft you enjoy in FSX in the real world, and if you are like me, you will take notes on what you observe and try to imitate the experience when you return home. January 12, 201412 yr Lovely flightplan. Still haven't flown on a T7, so I'm quite jealous! I always strive to visit new airports and travel with new aircraft when going somewhere. Makes my wife mad, and my colleagues at work shake their head in disbelief when I travel the day before just to take the longest possible way to the target Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!
January 12, 201412 yr Author I am actually looking forward to the Dash 8 most of all. That Porter Airline is the only all Dash 8 fleet and low cost airline with a 4 star rating. They even flew Queen Elizabeth II when she was last in Canada. Hopefully it will be a nice summer day on that flight as those Dash 8's fly lower and slower. It departs from Toronto Island (Billy Bishop) airport and arrives at Chicago Midway and returns the same way. Shame that you will miss out on the Queen, but the 777 is a fun ride. There is nothing like experiencing an aircraft you enjoy in FSX in the real world, and if you are like me, you will take notes on what you observe and try to imitate the experience when you return home. This is true, Last time I flew from Vancouver to Auckland in the 747-400 I recreated that flight with the PMDG 747 as well. I will most likely do the same with the new PMDG 777, Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
January 12, 201412 yr Your wallet must be CONSIDERABLY lighter. Jeff Bea I am an avid globetrotter with my trusty Lufthansa B777F, Polar Air Cargo B744F, and Atlas Air B748F.
January 12, 201412 yr The ANZ 747-400s only fly on the AKL - SFO and SFO - AKL routes from what I can tell. Regards, Jeremy Chesney
January 12, 201412 yr I am actually looking forward to the Dash 8 most of all. Hopefully it will be a nice summer day on that flight as those Dash 8's fly lower and slower. I fly Dash 8 100 and 200 series monthly, and have been for 20 years. Never grew to like them as much as the Dash 7 they replaced. Cool thing in Norway is that you can by a travel pass for 350-400 USD and travel as many legs as you want for 14 days with the Dash 8. No better way to see the country. January 12, 201412 yr Hi Matthew, Wow, quite the itinerary you have there. I do miss seeing the Air New Zealand 747-400, it has been years since I saw one fly in to Vancouver. You are going to enjoy the Dash 8, "WestJet Encore" started to operate the aircraft recently and looks really nice in their colors, the Dash 8 is unbelievably long. I flew in one from Montreal to Ottawa once and it was a thrill even before the Q400 was released for FSX. Enjoy your trip, you'll have a lot of things to look at while at all the different airports that you will be travelling to. Take care, Robert \Robert Hamlich/
January 12, 201412 yr Author Thanks Guys, the other thing I noticed is Air Canada is lacking 767's now and using A319's on routes they used to use 767's. I've flown from Toronto to LAX and Vancouver on the 767's before and was surprised to see A319's on those routes now. The ANZ 747-400s only fly on the AKL - SFO and SFO - AKL routes from what I can tell. When I was booking I saw the 747 from SFO but it was $200 more. SFO is the better airport as LAX is not a lot of fun any more. I heard their is a new Terminal so hopefully things are better. Cool thing in Norway is that you can by a travel pass for 350-400 USD and travel as many legs as you want for 14 days with the Dash 8. No better way to see the country. What a great way to see Norway. I good friend of mine just moved from Wellington to Norway and she loves it. She doesn't even complain about the cold (yet). I would love to see Norway someday and see the Fjords. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
January 12, 201412 yr I flew on a Dash 8-Q300 (Air Canada) from CYVR to KPDX this last summer, perfect view of the whole Pacific Northwest and it was sooooooo beautiful. Regards, Jeremy Chesney
