February 8, 201412 yr I sneak in and peak at the Prepar3d forums from time to time but haven't bought yet. I feel like there are a lot of folks doing that. The improvements keep coming and I'm thinking that, at some point, there is going to be a tipping point where people start to jump over pretty fast...the features or stability will go past some point. I see the compatibility list growing and becoming better defined, see the bugs fixed and new products being made with native support. Not sure exactly when it will happen but, I think it's coming. For me, I have a few things holding me back. Some of my favorite aircraft are not there (Flight 1 Mustang) or are a tad iffy (RealAir Dukes). It's okay, I can wait for the Dukes and I'm hoping for something I can replace the Mustang with. Reality XP replacement. Yeah, I know about Mindstar but I'm nervous about how it will work in aircraft designed for FSX, with installers for RealityXP on FSX...how it will work on a new platform. (The aircraft I'm talking about are the RealAir aircraft and Carenado aircraft.) Some native installers for add-ons. Truthfully, installations on FSX can cause problems even with native installers and you can spend hours, if not days getting things straightened out, performance retuned...doing it for two platforms is just not my thing. A longtime wish that photoreal and autogen could live and be better supported together. I know a lot of the technicalities...VAS, etc. and I know people are constantly, constantly working on it. This is almost a pipe-dream but, if it ever happens I'll be whipping out the plastic so fast.... I love the fact that scenery popping has been reduced a lot. I've seen the fog effects and they do make it look more real. For the near future, the stuff Milviz is working on is woh(!) and will go along way to making me think hard. Rob at RealAir is eying Prepare3D to see how it's going before he jumps (I think a lot of developers are wait and see.) And Eaglesoft is working on that new Citation. So, what do you guys think? If you're not in, what's holding you back? If you're already 'in' and watching the evolution from the inside, what do you think? February 8, 201412 yr Your post captures my thoughts almost exactly. Plus, I'm waiting for the next gen video cards to come out, if only for the reason that the current batch might drop in price a little and make an SLI configuration a little cheaper
February 8, 201412 yr C'mon Down +1 We know your credit card is ready to be swiped ... is that the correct word? Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW

February 8, 201412 yr When is the next gen supposed to be available? Who knows. I imagine we'll see 800 series cards (Is the architecture called Maxwell?) sometime soon.

February 9, 201412 yr Running both and getting the best out of both worlds. Well, if you call firing up fsx three times in 3 months to test ASN, then yes, still have both. Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk
February 9, 201412 yr Commercial Member Waiting to see how much PMDG charges for their P3D license before I jump in. I sure hope the price is fair. As I rarely fly in FSX, I held off buying any PMDG products until it was made available in P3D. REX AccuSeason Developer REX Simulations
February 10, 201412 yr I am very close to where you are in your thinking. For me, it basically boils down to: Flawless A2A C172 support Flawless VATSIM client support Flawless RealAir Lancair Legacy support. Rock solid stability (which the imminent patch is likely going to advance the cause for significantly). I'm no longer investing in any new FSX add-ons until I can move to P3D. Its watch and wait (with bated breath) right now.
February 12, 201412 yr Author One more thing that would push me closer would be shared, updatable navdata. I get tired of maintaining it all for all the add-ons. It needs to be one place...used by all. Gregg Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane. A great landing is when you can reuse it." i9 64GB RAM, GTX-5090
