March 5, 201412 yr I don't disagree with you, as I said "probably the right decision", I'm just suggesting the reviews are studied so an informed decision can be made. In addition, to aid with that process, I posted the pros and cons article. Haswell is a lot more hot than Ivy Bridge. About 15 °C hotter at the same clock speed. Really, that much? Ivy Bridge-E overclocks so much better so that he'll end up getting better performance overall, As the review I posted mentioned. 1 in 15 4770K's achieve 4.7 GHz. While approximately 1 in 5 Ivy E 4820's achieve 4.7 GHz. So you stand more chance of being lucky in the silicone lottery, but the average Ivy E won't achieve 4.7 GHz. I think maybe time will tell in regard to the overclocks the average 4820 will achieve. If only 20% achieve 4.7, I'm guessing the average chip will be more like 4.5. Something else that should be considered, is the capabilities of a delidded 4770k. If a given purchaser is prepared to do so, 4.7-4.8 is pretty much assured.
April 21, 201412 yr Author Guys thank you so much for your input! and special thanks to 'ChaoticBeauty'! At the end I went with 4820 and do not regret it for a single moment. It smoothly over clocked to 4.7 without excessive temperature or voltage. Temp around 37c and voltage 1.44v (both within recommended factory limits). I am sure I can stress it further to 5Ghz if I need to. The overclock has massively increased my FSX frame rate and I am absolutely delighted that I chose the right hardware. Just a quick question I am getting 1600GHZ from my RAM although it should be 2400GHZ….any suggestion or tutorial how I can increase my bass speed?
April 21, 201412 yr Ivy bridge: -Runs way cooler. -Overclocks easier and higher than a Haswell. My 2600K is @ 4.6ghz and runs FSX at 30FPS flat eccept in cases of extreme overcast, and add-on airports. David J. April 21, 201412 yr Sorry, the Haswell is the King. Have à 2011 based on Asus R4BE and 4960X,4930K,4820K Test them in fsx @4.9 mem2800mhz cl10 the Haswell is faster @4.6 Waiting to get à couple of 4790k and 4690k CPUs and some Z97 boards. I have à quite big bench libarary today 775,1156,1366,1155,1150,2011,am3,am3+, fm2. Running the sim on a 4670k @5.0 , gigabyte Z87mobo 2666mhz cl9 mems and 780TI. That gives me the best performance today, but it can change fast. http://
April 21, 201412 yr Ivy bridge: -Runs way cooler. -Overclocks easier and higher than a Haswell. Except that Ivy Bridge has a slower architecture than Haswell! Haswell overclocked less, matches Ivy Bridge. And not all Ivy Bridge CPU's overclock easier... mine for example does not.
April 21, 201412 yr When Haswell releases a CPU that overclocks as easy and as high as an Ivy bridge I will definately purchase a new CPU/motherboard. David J.
