High V1 speed?

Featured Replies

I'm using the 777-200 performance calculator from this thread:

http://forum.avsim.net/index.php?/topic/420235-Derate-calculator-for-777-200LR-available/page__view__findpost__p__2789964

It is fixed for flaps 15 and will give you basic calculations.

It's a pity that there's no TopCat 777 profile available, it works so well with the 737 and the MD-11.

Cheers,

are you doing derated takeoff?  and if so 1 2 or temp based drate?  might have to recalc your drates.

Thanks Andrei.

Emirates' aircraft are not allowed to use TO-1 or TO-2 thrust, they only fill in the Flex temp and that's it. As you can see I am using D-TO 50 degrees with TO thrust but I don't think that using 100% thrust would reduce my V1 speed.

This is what I am using until TOPCAT is available http://secure.simmarket.com/toper-calculator-tool-b777-(takeoff-performance-calculator).phtml

Amount of thrust does affect V speeds so you should see a V speed reduction using full rated thrust.

Anyway, as mentioned many times, the FMC calculates balanced V speeds,V2 is likely also incorrect due to obstacles on climbout.  You either need runway specific charts, an EFB calculator, or the laptop  software like TOPCAT & the link above.

Folks- a few of you in this thread or going to wind up in the penalty box if you don't start signing your posts as required in this forum.

No further warnings will be given.

PLEASE NOTE THAT PMDG HAS DEPARTED AVSIM

You can find us at:  http://forum.pmdg.com

There is a program in the Avsim library called UTOPIA, its the best alternative to TOPCAT for the 777. Gives you all the calculations that you need. Takes into account runway length, weight, and weather, It also is runway specific. It pulls weather and aircraft data from FSX through FSUIPC.

I don't think Utopia is runway specific.  It has a big warning in red letters telling you that your obstacle & climb performance limits are not taken into account.

Great program tho! It helped many of us when the PMDG MD11 was released :)

I'm pretty sure UTOPIA doesn't calculate V speeds, though. Still pretty good for flap/derate settings.

There is a CBT from Boeing out there that deals with performance. Wish I could send it to you guys, lots of info about this and well written.

Strangely enough the Airbus version is free to download

I am 100% sure I wouldn't be able to stop with that little RW left ahead of me if I aborted takeoff at let's say V1-1 knot.

In those cases the aircraft performance is field limited.

As for the increase in V speeds with increasing gross weight - that is basic physics. For a given airspeed and angle of attack, the wing produces a certain amount of lift. In order to produce more lift required at higher weights, the wing either needs to increase its angle of attack and/or the airflow over the wing. It is much harder to increase the angle of attack required (doing so reduces the margin to the stall), so the airspeed is increased instead.

Best regards,

Robin.
