AI Traffic for X-Plane 10...

Hey all,

I'm not saying immortalise me forever on the AVSIM X-Plane forums, but I think it could be a good idea for a moderator or something to make a post regarding AI traffic in XP10. I know that many of you probably know this, but it's not immediately evident however it is one of the most critical aspects for many people in providing an immersive sim.

I came across the XPFW packs and it has absolutely changed my sim. I've set traffic to 12 and it has less of an impact to fps than my initial 2 aircraft (default XP10 747). They also behave far more realistically than the default aircraft as they have been written specifically as AI aircraft.

Everywhere I fly the skies are now busy, with taxiing and queuing on runways. I really think for the majority of FSX users this would be more than enough. I know some people like detailed and realistic flight plans for their AI aircraft, but I imagine many people, like me, just want to see realistic liveries and a lot going on. Yesterday I had to wait in a queue behind 2 aircraft and also wait for another plane to land before I could take off, an absolute first for me in XP10.

As this information isn't immediately evident, it could be worth letting the FSXers know.

While I keep visiting this forum at least twice a week, I am completely unaware of the best add-ons for X-Plane 10, or even any tricks users can try to make X-Plane's world more convincing in as far as AI traffic is concerned, but I couldn't start such a thread because I simply know nothing about it.

If anyone is willing to offer their insight and experience on this theme ( could you Luke ? ) I will gladly make a sticky :-)

Well I'm still a fairly inexperienced X-Plane user but I can give it a go! Perhaps a thread titled "how to recreate your FSX experience in X-Plane 10" in which we suggest a number of addons which are very easy to install and that can make up for the basic lackings in XP10?

For example a link to top five 5 complex aircraft, weather addon (SkyMax I believe it's called), the traffic models I've linked here, and this website which I've found extremely useful:

http://www.xpscenery.net/

It could help ease the transition for people moving over. I will start writing a guide up this evening after work and hopefully we can get a few suggestions regarding what to add? It seems interest in XP10 is increasingly fairly rapidly at the moment from the chatter on other forums, perhaps the upcoming IXEG release will bring over a number of new people. The sooner we get people off of FSX and onto XP10 the sooner we'll start seeing developers jumping over!

Just a thought anyway, let me know what you all think :)

First time I hear about AI traffic add-ons for X-plane... Where can one find those?

Hi mate,

Very literally just add the models available here to your XP10 aircraft folder, then under other aircraft settings in XP10 you can begin to add them. They're highly optimised and come with real world liveries. They've really added a lot to my sim.

Looks good to me.

Please let me know when ready to start the topic with your guide.

I visit this forum only twice a week now, but I will try to check it more often. Please feel free to PM' me because that way I will get a notification on my email.

OTOH, there are already two pinned threads that fall more or less inside of the scope of such a post:

and

http://forum.avsim.net/topic/429828-general-opinion-on-x-plane-add-ons-and-features/

Thanks for the offer!

Wow! Now I have AI in X-plane 10!

Thank you!! Ian

Hi Luke, thanks for the instructions.

But there is something weird for me. I don't have the same screen4 like you.

I only have the top of the windows where I can choose the number of aircraft and two radio buttons to the right labelled like on your screenshot :

- save all craft in preferences

- randomize craft each load.

I don't have all the choices below like yours.

I have the latest version 10.25 and using the 64-bit version.

To be honest I rushed the instructions out a bit! I'll be home in an hour so will write a more comprehensive guide!

Luke,

in your guide you said "load a situation". Does it mean that AI Aircraft traffic are only usable with scenarios ? Or does it work if I choose any airport in the world with the 757FF for example ?

Stephane,

Well as far as I know you can only load access the menus in X-Plane once you're loaded into the sim - that's what I mean by load a situation; literally load any aircraft at any airport in the world!

Did you manage to find out how to actually select your aircraft? Have you had any luck populating the sim?
