March 29, 201412 yr HI all: I know this has been discussed before, but I just cannot find an answer from search engines. I have badly shimmering or flickering narrow thin objects. These are light poles, or windmills, or thin metal bridge supports. From a distance they all will flash like a strobe light, it not only is annoying, but hurts my eyes in the bargain. When I get really close the shimmer goes away. What settings do I need to change to get rid of this effect? By the way, I know this was a problem in FSX as well. I have radeonpro running, so can make changes in there if so advised. I have tried numerous settings to no avail so far. prepard3d and fsx run smooth with what I want, no blurries to speak of or stuttering for what that is worth. my system piledriver 8 core 4.5 ghz, 16 meg memory. amd 7970 graphics card 3 gig memory win7 64 bit. radeonpro for graphics card changes. Thank you -Stampee Specs removed.
April 1, 201412 yr Author I am about ready to give up. I tried all levels of AA and anti alias. I tried LOD settings in radeonpro. The only thing I have managed to do is make the sim run worse with all the added settings. Nothing I do gets rid of those annoying flashing images. I recall in FSX trees would flash badly, but a few settings did fix them, albeit slower fps. in prepar3d the trees are fine, just the narrow thin single pixel images at a distance flickering on and off. I wonder if Nvidia users have such a problem? -Stampee Specs removed.
April 1, 201412 yr Something to consider, most of us are conditioned by FSX to tweak it till our eyes fall out, I saw a post that basically stated keep it simple, so I did, the first thing I would recommend is save your Prepar3D cfg file and change its name (you can always go back if you dont like what you are getting), restart P3D and allow it to build a new CFG file, then do your AffinityMask and himemfix and save it, the restart, go into adjustment and start your sliders at 25% and start moving to the right in increments. I have a great vid, my fps is great, and it is stable. The only thing that I can add is what Word Not Allowed recommends - turn auto gen down to 25%. Until the new patch comes out to fix that, it will save you headaches.
April 1, 201412 yr then do your AffinityMask and himemfix and save it BTW, no need for highmemfix in P3D V2 I believe.
April 1, 201412 yr I am actually trying to tweak P3D now. I get like 12FPS for some odd reason. FSX, no problems at all. So i will have to check out Word Not Allowed's recommendations I guess.
April 1, 201412 yr Highmemfix is NOT needed in 2.1 - does nothing. Tom Higginbotham Intel 4820K - OC'd 4.8 ghz / ASUS x79 Deluxe Premium MB, 16 gig Corsair Dominator ram, CorsairRM1000 PSU, Corsair H-105 Liquid, EVGA 770 Classified, 37" Samsung TV/Monitor, Samsung 840 EVO SSD 1TB, WD VRaptor, 1TB
April 1, 201412 yr And, does that imply that the AffinityMask adjustment IS still needed in v.2.1 (and probably v.2.2)?? Mark
April 2, 201412 yr On the shimmering/flickering in P3Dv2.x, I found the higher the in Sim MSAA setting the less shimmering... MSAA 8 was best but caused more of an fps hit than I wanted, so I settled on MSAA 4. Hopefully in later updates, more AA options will be effective thru the ATI and Nvidia tweak programs. In my case similar results of MSAA for both a Gigabyte Radeon HD7870 OC and more recently an upgrade to an Asus GTX780 3GB OC My Prepar3Dv2 settings: http://tinyurl.com/p3ygdb7
April 2, 201412 yr And, does that imply that the AffinityMask adjustment IS still needed in v.2.1 (and probably v.2.2)?? Mark Not needed but you can add the AM statement and look what happens. Have a look in the P3D manual too. Spirit
April 2, 201412 yr Author And how does highmem fix, affinity mask and turning sliders to low help with my flickering object problem? I can put all sliders on zero and they still flicker. It acts like this thread has turned into a completely different discussion. -Stampee Specs removed.
April 2, 201412 yr Stampee, review this thread and see if you can gleem anything from it. This is where I got this from, and it works for me. The only thing that I am seeing from your system is that could be a specific glitch is the 7970, good gaming card, just do not know if it and P3D get along with their drivers. http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=6185 Hope you get your issue solved.
