April 1, 201412 yr I'm buying the PMDG 737-800 NGX tomorrow and I was wondering, will the FMC automatically caculate waypoints/a route to your desired location or do you have to do it one by one? Ben Angelo. Proud member of Mountain Airlines.

No, it won't create a route for you. There are plenty of websites/add-ons that will let you save routes for later recall. Matt Cee

April 1, 201412 yr There are a gazillion threads about route setup, here's a vid to show you what you need to know. It would help if you spent some time reading the manual and trying the tutorial. \Robert Hamlich/

April 2, 201412 yr So then how do you create a route? Alex, I can seriously recommend PFPX for flight planning, although at the starting stage, might be a bit over the top. So just use Vatroute or simliar. If you want to learn all the nitty gritty behind the NGX, I can highly recommend the videos from Angle Of Attack Training...captains package. Personaly, I use PFPX and Topcat for planning, and on the side run a notebook with Aivlasoft EFB for the entire flight (start to finish). Finally, I also use my ipad mini as an FMC...very cool and neat feature....http://www.virtualavionics.com.br Then to top it up, bought the CP Flight PRO MCP + EFIS + COMMS. Cheers, Rene
April 2, 201412 yr keep it simple for now and then go pfpx payware later as Rene suggested. Get the free simbrief flight planner http://www.simbrief.com/home/ enter the start and end locations , press go and then import to your 737 using the export button... there your done, go fly and enjoy ZORAN

April 2, 201412 yr How do you change the route? I want to change the route from a straight line to egll from egbb to have a kind of curve to it to land on a runway. Alex, I really recommend you watch some videos or sign up for the training I suggested. The NGX is a complex simulation (well, as complex as you would like to make it) and if you really want to enjoy its in-depthness, try find some tutorials on youtube or sign up for the training I mentioned earlier...it will pay off and you will really enjoy the aircraft. Especially, when you go on vatsim or ivao latest then, you will need to know what you are doing and especially how to "manipulate" not only the FMC but also MCP. To answer your question in a nutshell, you will need to enter the relevant waypoints by selecting "RTE" on the FMC and activate them. Then setup your approach by selecting "DEPP/ARR" on the FMC. But if you save the route from simbrief as suggested by Zoran, you can simply import a company route from the FMC...you will then just have to setup the approach. Here is also a good checklist: http://www.carsten-rau.com/diverses/ivao/Checklist-737-PMDG-737NGX.pdf Furthermore, you have a tutorial or two delivered wtih the software...the FMC details are also outlined there. As mentioned, you will need to do some reading or you may as well just stick with the default aircraft Oh and EGLL to EGBB is a very short root for this aircraft...might as well take the car Fly something like EGLL - EHRD...thats a short and interesting hop.
April 2, 201412 yr Commercial Member Since there's a group here who thinks I'm just here for my own publicity, I might as well live up to their expectations... Here's a video I made (back on my birthday, I just realized), about how to create a route by yourself: Kyle Rodgers
April 2, 201412 yr Alex: Kyle`s videos are excellent! Worth every minute. I would watch them all...well, I did  over and above the training at Angel of Attack

April 2, 201412 yr Thanks Rene! If you have any suggestions on what to make a video of next, feel free to PM here or over on YouTube! Thanks Kyle...if I think of anything, I will PM you. But right now, all your videos and those of others as well as angel of attack pretty much covered all my needs...bought the PMDG in Jan 2013, did my first VATSIM flight only a few weeks back and all the learning and off-line flying the the NGX paid off...I really enjoy it now and am NEVER going back to offline flying.
