Thoughts on p3d developer vs professional license

Featured Replies

Given that when P3D V2.0, V1.4 users were given no discount, I'm wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the developer vs professional licenses.

The professional license at $199, and based on what happened with 2.0, recurs every "big number" version upgrade. The developer license is $9.99 per month, and could just be renewed to the latest version as they are released. So basically, the pro version is a better deal only if we expect that big number releases are more than 20 months apart. Is there any hint so far on when to expect P3D V3.0?

I am ignoring the academic license, as I do not qualify, but could conceivably qualify for the developer license.

Thanks for your thoughts,

We have no idea when Prepar3D 3.0 will be out. The next big step for Prepar3D is the 64-bit update, but it isn't yet known whether it will be added as an option to 2.x or will ship with 3.0.

But I think it's well worth getting Prepar3D 2.2 right now. It has improved a lot since 2.0, and according to Wes Bard, future point releases will have a lot to offer.

Look at the release schedule, from version 1 to version 2 it was 3 years. $360 vs $199, this is however assuming that you are on board when the new release happens. The benefit to the dev license is that you get two different installs which could come in handy, the downside is you have to "develop" something with it.

"I just wanna tell you both: good luck. We're all counting on you."

But there is no need to pay more than the Academic license (60 bucks), for home "learning" use !

(using learning instead of entertainment, as in the same how LM uses it, as in a Documentary/Learning experience can be Entertaining too, sort of DiscoveryChannel blend of realitytv as in informative-entertainment)

Unless you "need" two licenses which you get with the Developer or Professional.

This isn't really true. Both the Professional and the Academic licence are licensed for training, instruction, learning and simulation. Whether you should get the Professional or the Academic licence depends purely on your age.

What you're saying might have been true for Prepar3D 1.4 (I didn't really bother with that), but for Prepar3D 2.x they've made it clear that you should pick the licence according to your age.

Get P3D2!!! See it that way the money you spent is an investment in further development. Besides that either way P3D2 is worth every cent. You will get one of the most supportive dev teams with P3D2 they help where they can.

As you might read this sentence million times before P3D2 is under constant development.
