Any amount of fuel you plan on not using (basically, everything other than the plan and contingency fuel). Really, the only thing this drives is the FMC alert, letting you know you're using more than you'd planned on using. If you want an alert, enter in whatever value at which you want to be alerted. If you don't want an alert about your using more fuel than you'd planned, leave it blank. Kyle Rodgers
April 24, 201412 yr Author Thanks buddy Scan quick Q on the FMC takeoff and topcat. Do i have to select the CLB1 CLB2 or is that done auto from topcat calculations? I select TO2 assumed temp 36C and the FMC should select CLB1 or 2? Vernon Howells
April 24, 201412 yr Commercial Member Do i have to select the CLB1 CLB2 or is that done auto from topcat calculations? I select TO2 assumed temp 36C and the FMC should select CLB1 or 2? That's a good question. Honestly, TOPCAT really only takes into account obstacles that are down in the immediate takeoff vicinity, as far as I know, so I don't think it handles climb de-rates at all. I've always just left it at whatever the FMS selects after I select my TO de-rate (and/or assumed temp). There's obviously some sort of logic built in, so I let it do its thing unless I have a specific reason to change it (which I can't think of any). Kyle Rodgers

Correct me if I am wrong but it would appear your have not done the PMDG NGX Tutorials 1 and 2, read the PFPX manual, nor looked at the TOPCAT Users Guide under the Help section. If you haven't done so, you will find some very useful information in those documents that will help you successfully complete whatever flight you are attempting. Michael Cubine

April 25, 201412 yr Right got it so in the FMC reserve column what figures from the PFPX am i adding up to put in the reserve column of the FMC? Hello Dave, when you plan and release a flight in PFPX, you'll see the details tab, where it will give you the amount of fuel for your flight, in there it gives you the reserve fuel, but if you try and add some of those numbers up, you won't get the reserve fuel number, because that is a calculation PFPX has already done, before releasing the flight. To delve into the workings of the calculation, look at the fuel policy that you are applying, whether you are using EASA or ICAO or other standard for fuel planning. The reserve you get in that detail tab is just a mere consequence of that fuel policy, Enrico
April 25, 201412 yr There's obviously some sort of logic built in, so I let it do its thing unless I have a specific reason to change it (which I can't think of any). The logic is that reduction to CLB rating should not lead to actual increase of engine power, so the computer will derate the climb rating accordingly. --Peter Fabian
