ORBX Vector - FPS crusher

Featured Replies

Putting road traffic to 0 got a few FPS back but not enough.

However disabling Secondary roads gave me pretty much all of my FPS back (with road traffic still on and set at 10).  So it seems like those roads are the culprit.  It's unfortunate because the cities look better with them and traffic moving on them.  Unfortunatly just disabling traffic on the secondary roads doesn't help, the roads themselves have to be disabled.  I hope that ORBX is aware of this because it doesn't seem like secondary roads should cause such a drastic performance hit.

I noticed this also in FSX 2 weeks ago

Thanks for that it helps.   Do you know what was supplied w/ FTX Global as far as roads go?  Is that basically highways & primary roads?  Not quite sure how it differs from Global and/or P3D Default.   It's tempting for sure.  Also if you know, is Vector relatively easy to uninstall?

Uninstall  - You can disable the entrys in scenery.cfg for testing with and without. This works great on my system

I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE BACK MY ORIGINAL POST and apologize to ORBX.  I always have the best intentions to contribute to the community what information I can, and enjoy help from others.

In this case I inncorrectly accused ORBX Vector of basically destroying the performance of my sim.  There must have been some corruption of my install of P3D or of Vector. (The roads look different and better after my reinstall so I'm assuming there was some corruption of the Vector install).   I did a full uninstall reinstall of P3D and my add ons and the problem was corrected.  I am able to use Vector pretty much with full settings and had nice performance.  The only box I unticked were the Vector Road Lights in P3D Central, as they did have a noticible impact on FPS.  I'm now happy with 20-30 fps over downtown Houston and Los Angeles with sliders hard right, Global/Vector/Rex/Add on plane, road traffic at 10, OPUS and a healthy amount of AI traffic from My Traffic 5.4.

I would recommend anyone to purchase vector, and only expect a small hit to FPS.

Glad to hear you've got it figured out do_denver2, happy flying!

I can relate to this denver.  I think the real problem is that it is so difficult to come up w/ solid conclusions on just about anything in the simulator environment.  We are tempted to blame this or that when in fact it's this or that IN THE CONTEXT of exactly what we are doing w/ the simulator, and so these conclusions often just don't hold up except in the exact context.   IOW, we over-generalize our 'findings' and assume they may apply to more situations than they do.  I'm holding off on Vector until 1.2 comes along to see what sort of impact that has.  I purchased Vector initially, then cancelled the order once I learned there was no configurator, and I was very vocal about that and happy to learn they added this feature.  Even so, 1.2 I guess it is looks like it might be considerably more complex and I am loathe to take perf down very much more.   I'm trying to keep room for complex tube liners and so don't want to overburden the processing overhead too much.  I think i'll likely pick up Vector 1.2, but use it only for coastlines and limit roads big time.

Just done a flight at 4500ft over the centre of London and although there was the odd fluctuation, my fps stayed locked at 30, which confirms that Vector is not an fps burden (at least not on my system).

I was wondering if you might have had an install issue. I have Vector, with everything clicked on...and didn't find it to be a hit killer, either with it full out, or with your suggestion to turn off Secondary Roads, of which I tried out of curiosity. There was basically no diff on my machine. I have Vector with all roads engaged once more...and I think the sim really looks noticeable with it all on, vs. some parts disabled.  I thought I was going to not like Vector, from all of the forum traffic I had read prior to purchase a few days ago, with it compared to the likes of UTX.  I feel it compares rather nicely, and haven't seen any things to cringe about with version 1.15. I read that v1.2 is going to be 'killa'.......:)
