June 11, 201411 yr Design work began in 1947. From the drawing boards of Roy Chadwick and Stuart Davies - designers of the Lancaster. First flew in 1952. Entered service in 1956. Held the record for the longest distance bombing raid - a total distance of 7,778 miles - from 1982-2003. Retired from service in 1984. The nuclear bomber that handled like a fighter. Named after the Roman god of fire. The Avro Type 698... better known as the Vulcan An extraordinary aircraft flown by extraordinary crews. Famous of course for the Black Buck raids in 1982, but less well known are its exploits at Red Flag and its successful penetration of US airspace during Operation Sky Shield I and Sky Shield II. Nick

June 12, 201411 yr Commercial Member Thanks for the comments. This model is pretty old now, would be nice if we had a more contemporary one, or even a Victor... Having seen what Just Flights new in house team did with the Canberra, just imagine what they could do with the Vulcan! Cheers Paul Golding
June 13, 201411 yr Great pictures. Yes, based on their Canberra, JF could do a nice Vulcan, but I think the Iris one still has a lot of mileage left, and maybe the other V-Bombers should be given priority. A proper Valiant would be very welcome indeed. Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting. https://rationalwiki.org
June 13, 201411 yr Author Having seen what Just Flights new in house team did with the Canberra, just imagine what they could do with the Vulcan! Well given they've put th VC10 on hold because it's too complex, and they're doing a Tornado GR.1 instead I don't think there's much chance of them doing a V-Bomber anytime soon. Maybe you could drop them a subtle hint about a certain DC-8  Having recently started messing around again with FS9 the old DF 727 is still a seriously nice piece of work, definitely one of the all time greats! Still, I won't turn my nose up at a GR.1, especially from the team that did the Canberra! To be fair though, I could give them a pretty big wish list of British types I'd dearly love to see done to the same standard as the Canberra. Any of the V-Bombers would be great, as would a BAC 1-11 or Trident, or even a re-visit of the Comet or Viscount. On a related note, JF have just released their Chipmunk and it looks pretty nice at £9.99 B) Nick
