June 14, 201411 yr Hello Everyone I've just got Prepar3d and the scenery looks very good for generic stuff, just followed the A3 from Guilford area which is where i come from to Portsmouth, my question is will the ORBX scenery improve on this, made a mistake and bought the England scenery the other day and it doesn't work yet in version 2.2 but i'am thinking of getting the global from ORBX i will only be flying vfr, am i wasting my money. Regards Andy
June 14, 201411 yr You wont waste your money. I have global and I love it. One suggestion though is buy Vector from Orbx also. This adds proper road and coast lines, bodies of water and the mix for the most part. V1.1 is out now and is great. They are about ready to update that as well to include a vast amount of fixes, but I use in in the south where i fly a lot RW and it is a great addition. Orbx Global and Vector will do the trick for VFR flying. Both cover the whole globe, so you can skip around as you wish. William Sequeira
June 14, 201411 yr My home area is also not yet covered by Orbx, so I bought FTX Global and Vector . . . plus I also bought 'FS Global 2010: FTX Edition' because I also wanted more accurate mesh for my VFR flights. The combination is a bit expensive, but it does cover the entire Earth (so the cost is actually pretty reasonable for the amount of coverage you're getting). ~ Arwen ~ Home Airfield: KHIE
June 14, 201411 yr Do some research first Andy, there are some advantages to OrbX style landclass scenery, but if you are intending to fly VFR then you may want to consider photoscenery instead. I do all my flying low and slow VFR and I find that OrbX style scenery isn't accurate enough for me, I like to see exactly what's on the ground rather than a semi approximate representation of it. There are some excellent photoscenery products with full autogen coverage coming out now from Earth Sims so many of the traditional criticisms of photoscenery are about to be rendered invalid. You need to be happy that whatever you buy works the best for you, because it's definitely a case of different strokes for different folks as they say. Just look at all the options and don't be pushed into getting what works for someone else Cheers K Kevin Firth - AMD 9800X3D; Asus Prime X670E; 64Gb Cas30 6000 DDR5; RTX5090; AutoFPS
June 14, 201411 yr or you could use photoscenery with something like Revolution X for the area that you fly in within the UK and have Global and Vector for the rest of the world Dale Collins
June 14, 201411 yr or you could use photoscenery with something like Revolution X for the area that you fly in within the UK and have Global and Vector for the rest of the world A perfectly valid option which I've considered myself, but binned because I just don't fly elsewhere in the world often enough to justify the cost Kevin Firth - AMD 9800X3D; Asus Prime X670E; 64Gb Cas30 6000 DDR5; RTX5090; AutoFPS
June 14, 201411 yr No it's all UK I'm afraid... Kevin Firth - AMD 9800X3D; Asus Prime X670E; 64Gb Cas30 6000 DDR5; RTX5090; AutoFPS
June 14, 201411 yr I have recently converted from FS9 to P3DV2 and am also looking at what add ons I really need. As I see it there are 2 issues that are somewhat irksome. I too have had the misfortune to purchase an add on thinking that it will work in P3D (as it says on the product info) only to find it wont work in Version 2. It becomes problematic if you can't get a refund or the developer says that there are installers coming....but when is a different matter. Just how much do you invest in all of this scenery and add on aircraft when the next version of P3D might render that all obsolete. Surely the jump to a 64 bit system must be just around the corner........and then what? I think I will just stick to the minimum for now until V2 beds in and the devs play catch up (or at least be very selective). Cheers Steve Hall
June 14, 201411 yr So true about the P3D compatibility... Seems like the companies are doing a terrible job of correctly advertising what will work or not. Even OrbX (whose website is simply atrocious by the way)
June 14, 201411 yr "Surely the jump to a 64 bit system must be just around the corner" I highly doubt that - as that would be from the ground up project and I don't think that's in Their best interest as P3D once optimized in 32 bit will fit the bill for Their audience - maybe wrong but doubt it Rich Sennett
