Blur... always blur

Hi guys..

I'm wondering P3D v2.2 during last days and i'm getting some strange issues while tweaking.

So, my HW cfg:

- I7 3770K@ 4.5GHz disabled HT

- 660 Ti 2GB

- 8GB DDR3

- P3D running from SSD

I'm now running whit a clean P3D.cfg with following settings, done by P3D interface:

- Autogen is dense or trees & buildings,

- Shadows only on A/C internals and externals

- FPS unlimited with VSync

- MSAA 8x and Texture Filtering 16x

I installed FTX Global + Vector + OpenLC Europe

I load an F35 from Ciampino (LIRA) and taking off i get extremely good FPS (40/50 up to 60) but the external scenery is sharp only around my airport (i think loaded during scenery initialization).

While flying straight ahead the scenery remains always blurred...

The strange fact happens when i add Fiber Frame Time Fraction to my CFG, reaching unlogical values, like 0.5 or 0.7, i'll expect to loose FPS and to get a better scenery loading, but my sim doesn't reacts to the tweak... while the CFG was unmodified with FFTF al 0.5 all the world around me remains blurred, with same incredible FPS values.

What can i do to get good scenery sharpness??

Thanks for help!

Hmm...I have a very similar rig to yours, and I have not been able to achieve your level of MSAA or Texture Filtering. Put it simply, your card is being hit too hard, and you will have blurred terrain because it is the last thing it will load, and it has no time to do so.

The card is not the best for texture loading speeds, and it doesnt process tesselation all that well.

I have my settings wound back, Autogen at NORMAL, and MSAA 4x and Texture Filtering at 4x as well.

Also have my frames limited to 26 inside P3D.

Running process explorer I can see my card goes to 100% load a lot of the times but it handles it. Bumping the sliders any higher and it will simply not be fast or powerful enough to process terrain and textures.

Try Affinity Mask 15. I have done a LOT of testing this weekend and on my i7 4790K HT disabled @ 4.5 I get immediate blurries when I do not use the AM tweak or even when I set it at 14. Only 15 somehow forces the sim to load the textures. The difference is VERY obvious and repeatable!

In case you don't know the tweak: add this to the Prepar3D.cfg:

[JOBSCHEDULER]
AffinityMask=15

Thanks for reply... i think my problem is the GPU for shure, but not as you told... i notice that i never stress it... never over 60%, also decreasing MSAA, Tasselation, Autogen... it always remains with an half workload...

WoW! Amazing... you're right! Bringing my AM to 15 will get my sim to load the scenery!

Now i have to work on the speed of the scenery rendering, but with 15 i see the world loading while flying...

Glad it worked for you as it did for me: that isn't always (or even usually) the case with tweaks. ^_^ However, this also worked like this on my previous PC. I do think that for a 4 core CPU AM=15 is the best option.

The speed of the rendering/loading of textures depends on a lot of factors/settings but I am already happy the highest res textures are actually being loaded, even though it often happens a bit late: that doesn't bother me as much as (higher res) textures not loading at all!

Wonderful.. i've done some tests and AF 15 has changed my sim... amazing!

Thanks a lot. Once again.

Now i've to fine tune the value of FFTF to achieve the best balance with the workload given to scenery loading process.

For some reason only known to them, the LM programming team decided to use a default affinity mask which prevents P3d 2.x from using CPU core 0. This has supposedly be corrected for P3d 2.3 which is presently in beta testing.

Good to know. I already noticed using no AM tweak and using AM=14 resulted in the same performance (also when it came to blurries). So with 2.3 the default will be 15. Nice. That means I won't have to add any tweak at all anymore to the cfg. Now if only LM would make sure P3D can perform smooth on high end systems...

Glad to know it...

Core 0 seems to be the real booster of p3d... i'm slowly decreasing and adjusting the FFTF value and all the system seems to be perfectly balanced also in killer situations like EGLL v3 and FTX UK...

So.. seeing the amazing posts on P3D developers blog, we're waiting for version 2.3!

Could you clarify why removing HT is better?  I would have thought P3D would make better use of HT, specially in the more recent Haswell CPUs?  I have tried to assign CORE 0 to P3D and all it does is prevent me from using certain external add-ons as CORE0 goes flat out.

I left HT on on my system, no way I want to turn it off, I'm using adobe stuff for design and video production. I also have i7 3770 @ 4.5 and FSX is working just fine with HT on with proper AM value. Can't remember exactly the value, I think it's 84 or 255, must check it out. No blurs, no stutters, even at 250kts low level.

Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.

Could you clarify why removing HT is better?

On my PC turning HT on results on lower fps, more stutters and blurries! There is a VERY noticable difference. During all my testing I once forgot to turn HT off and I immediately thought when I started a test run "Oops, I think I forgot to turn off HT!" But as always: this is the case on my PC. ;) I am not saying HT is bad, period!

Same here. In addition, it only made my box run hotter.
