Had a Good Laugh at the "new" Definitive Guide to FTX Products

I'm so close to buying the suite....and being an old VOZ user, and everything Orbx already except the global stuff, I know I would be "compatible" with the global interface.

It's actually real simple despite the graphic chart it's two mouse clicks that's al there is to it....

I have been thinking of getting Global, Vector and the new Land Class.  Was just keeping up on how things are going with these products....of course I think the guide is useful but it sure struck a funny bone.

I'm thinking that it would be easier of Orbx folks just get the bloody regions done for Europe.  I would rather they concentrate in pumping out regions.

As it is I tend to only fly the regions.

Did you ever get Vector? I have Global and Open LC Europe without Vector (still use the vector data from UTX Europe) and everything seems fine - quite amazing actually! In fact, Open LC Europe is so good that it almost renders the Orbx regions superfluous - they only come into their own if you know an area very well and want it to be as accurate as possible.

Hi Bill, no I just bought Global without Vector and openLC Europe.  I have UTX Europe which provides excellent vector scenery plus some unique landclass.

I just can't keep pouring money into this stuff so I will take it slow.  I have all the FTX regions and many, many airports...its a huge cash drain for me so I have to pace myself.

I recently built a Norway Region and Denmark Region (that's what I'll call them) using available freeware (my thanks to all those dedicated folks who put the time and energy into providing this stuff for us) on top of Global.  The results are very good and very flyable.  Perhaps later I'll venture into the openLC stuff.

I also have FS Genesis mesh which seems to do the job of elevation for me so I haven't bought any of the Pilots stuff, as I simply don't need it.

Cheers, Bryan

So now there is a new schematic posted showing six difference flying scenarios drawn out with instructions on which switch to set where depending upon the type of flying you intend to embark upon. Heck you'll need to print it off in colour and make a wall posted to understand what you need to do.

I like your  "poster" idea Bryan but there may not be a paper format or wall big enough when they eventually get to adding Oceana to the map, however you bring up a very good point....

Based on the departure and arrival you have in mind and exactly what config of Orbx products you have installed, perhaps some sort of "scenery config wizard" would be in order that plugs into PFPX or the like, that could then automatically set everything up for you based on your selected airports and chosen flight level!!!   Just%20Kidding.gif

Actually on a more serious note, I did try out the SCE tool to help keep the VAS somewhat under control, but it really struggles with adding in/installing Orbx regions etc , so have basically resorted to the good 'ol FSX scenery library just to keep things straight. At the end of the day, it still is relatively straightforward to keep the Orbx stuff aligned.

Cheers,

As easy as it is to understand Global and switching between regions with and without hybid, I managed to screw it up and went flying with Global, but with NA region switched on and for the life of my couldn't understand why I was getting texture morphing in Europe.  There you go then, forget to switch to Global when flying outside of a region.

Related side-note, Orbx is working on an install manager to organize all of their products, and automatically check for updates. I need this BAD.

What a fantastic idea, I'm glad they are finally doing this.

@Bryan, I feel your pain my friend.

I use Global-Hybrid everywhere I go, get's the job done right!

Same. I do agree the document does make it look more complicated that it needs to be.

I'm happy to set Global and Hybrid mode and be done with it. Created library insertion point too so it doesn't all get messed if I do change it.
