July 30, 201411 yr I'm not sure of the SDK allows this as I have no programing experience, but is there or will there be a way to add electronic checklist items? Items such as; Transponder:on/off for the before takeoff checklist WXR : off for landing and etc. David Zambrano, CFII, CPL, IGI I know there's a lot of money in aviation because I put it there.
July 30, 201411 yr Commercial Member I'm not sure of the SDK allows this as I have no programing experience, but is there or will there be a way to add electronic checklist items This has been brought up a few times. The answer is a pretty solid no, but with reservations. If you search, you'll find Ryan's comments about it. Transponder:on/off for the before takeoff checklist Somewhat irrelevant give then new FAA guidance: transponder on, no matter what aircraft type, at any time you're moving. WXR : off for landing and etc. That would be nice. I've taxied in a couple times with it on...oops... Kyle Rodgers
July 30, 201411 yr They said multiple times that while it might be considered eventually, it's not in the plans for now to allow customizing it. The SDK would allow you to create an ECL module, though.
July 30, 201411 yr Author Thanks, Kyle. It seems it won't be done despite Ryan's comments. Too much of a hassle. But then again... the WXR happened. Somewhat irrelevant give then new FAA guidance: transponder on, no matter what aircraft type, at any time you're moving. Yeah I probably meant to say TA/RA / Standby. David Zambrano, CFII, CPL, IGI I know there's a lot of money in aviation because I put it there.
July 30, 201411 yr Commercial Member Yeah I probably meant to say TA/RA / Standby. Even so, the FAA guidance is Mode C (or better, as equipped). The transponder on the 777 (that we have) is STANDBY, ON (no Mode C), XPDR (I'm assuming ON + C), TA, and TA/RA. Most SOPs I've seen (post FAA guidance) just have the crews jump from standby to TA/RA to set it and forget it. RA is automatically inhibited on the ground anyway. ASDE-X requires the Mode C broadcast, and the FAA seems to be doing it in an effort to make procedures standardized, regardless of if the airport is so equipped. I see your point to a certain degree, but the ECL is meant to be supplementary, and not a replacement for normal procedures and checklists anyway. Kyle Rodgers

July 30, 201411 yr I thought that the ECL was standard across all 777's. I guess this discussion points to the ECL being customized for each airline. Is that correct? If so, how close would the PMDG 777 be to the ECL's you would find the aircraft of most major airlines ? Mark CYYZ
July 30, 201411 yr Is that correct? Yes how close would the PMDG 777 be to the ECL's you would find the aircraft of most major airlines ? Depends entirely on the airline, of which there are many! But, the ECL provided is Boeing's standard, so it should be similar enough to majority of the airline's own checklists out there.
July 30, 201411 yr Most airlines will not want to deviate too much from the official Boeing ECL....for legal reasons alone I would think. Ours was a little different (in an attempt to have similar checklists all over various fleet (Boeing - Airbus, totally silly in my opinion) but has been changed to be more like the Boeing ECL. (as in like 98% or so) Same with SOPs. Rob Robson
July 31, 201411 yr Was watching the Just planes Air Canada B777-300er video and realised that their ECL seems to be different from the PMDG B777 ECL. I think that is what the others meant by variation. Regards, Ronald
July 31, 201411 yr The SDK would allow you to create an ECL module, though Kinda. You can get an ECL, but not integrated into the PMDG plane as their own is. --Peter Fabian
July 31, 201411 yr What sort of items come up in differing airline options, surely Boeing ones are pretty comprehensive ? Alaister Kay
July 31, 201411 yr Kinda. You can get an ECL, but not integrated into the PMDG plane as their own is. Indeed, although it could be made as an additional panel.
