13 FPS in PMDG 777 VC on a modern PC, normal?

Featured Replies

Hello,

After quitting FSX for 4 years, I recently decided to build a new PC hoping to fly PMDG 777 smoothly with many other cutting-edge addons.

However, without any .cfg tweaking, I was a bit frustrated today seeing that my PMDG 777 only had about 15 FPS in virtual cockpit when parked at EGLL, where I plan to use as base for many flights. While I wouldn't call it a slideshow, it was definitely not smooth. The EGLL scenery I use is UK2000 xtreme Heathrow v3.

Here is a complete list of other addons running at the time:

PMDG 777

UK2000 Heathrow Xtreme v3

REX 4

Active Sky Next

FSGenesis Europe/Africa

UTX Europe

GEX Europe

My Traffic X Pro 5.3c (with slider around 25%)

GSX

EZDOK

I understand this is a big list and also that addon scenary and traffic kill a lot of FPS. But I really expected more from my new machine which has 4790k @4.6ghz and GeForce GTX 780. I have certainly seen people running FSX smoothly in many Youtube videos with similar hardware/addons/settings. So, what am I missing here? Am I really being too ambitious?

Thanks,

RW

In REX 4 settings, decrease the resolution of the textures. In my case I put low or medium. Despite that, it does not affect my simulation's graphics, but FPS increases a lot...

I have a very similar setup and I would say that is not far off of normal.  I am probably closer to 18 to 20 with dips as low as 10 to 13.  A lot depends on how you have setup EGLL V3 .....did you enable static aircraft.  Also, what are you clouds from REX 4096, 2048 or 1024.  What are your autogen settings, shadows, etc, etc.   Lots of pieces to the puzzle but I think you are par for the course.

Actually I think 15fps quite normal with those conditions. But I would suggest dropping down some settings, for example autogen should be normal or sparse because if you're flying the 777 you will most likely be busy with other things than looking out of the window. Mesh complexity at around 60 would be better and I'm unsure if you need special effects at max.

I see you had DX10 checked.  Unless you have some of the special tweaking for that, it

might do better not being checked.  Any major processes running in the background?

Did you remove the mytraffic afcad file for EGLL? EGLL is one of the heaviest sceneries around, and London is a heavy framerate area. Don't expect more than 20 fps here. You should use some fsx.cfg tweaks, like highmemfix and affinitymask.

Low FPS is not the concern, is it smooth? I get between 13 and fixed 30 FPS and FSX is very smooth.

One thing you can try, click off the hidef 3d cockpit option in FSX aircraft settings. You won't see to much degradation of graphic quality in PMDG aircraft, but in return you'll see a significant boost in performance. Note this doesn't work as well in some other aircraft, especially Aerosoft A320 but does with PMDG!

Thanks

First things first...

How did you set up your OS and FSX?

Used any guides at all..?

If not, then do it and try again, you should get better performance IMO.

FYI, it´s not about FPS in FSX, it´s smoothness, good luck.

With all of those add-ons going, 15fps is very respectable with PMDG. I have a pretty high-spec PC and a GTX 780 Ti and even with default sceneries I'm usually in the 18-24fps range in the NGX or 777.

Did you do a full reinstall after SP1? After I installed SP1 on top of the previous build I got horrible FPS first, then when I reinstalled the whole thing it got fixed, now I get like 20FPS most of the time with 777.
