Your favorite weather engine

I've been using REX for a LOOOOOONG time and this has always happened to me. I have some cash to spend, so why not fix the problem? It's definitely annoying because it will ruin the "smoothness" of the flight. Also, the MD-11's ######ing betty will start saying "ALTITUDE" or and the overspeed warning sound will play.

Well, I remember some flights withe the NGX where the weather load did apparently give a drastic change in wind direction. But there was some sort of smoothing. But mostly it was just some slight bank left or right, 10 secs later everything was good again. It never looked as a big problem to me.

Best regards, Steffen

It's happened to me once while taking off.... on VATSIM.... with traffic.

Not fun.

Okay. ASN seems like the clear winner here. So can I use REX for textures and ASE solely for weather?

Yes ASN is only the weather generator, you can use it with 3rd party textures, like REX, that's what I use.

Thanks

I understand. As I haven´t REX installed atm (As some annoying install error after my all new setup following an HDD crash prevents me from), I might try ASN if it´s liked that much.

P.S: Sorry if I sounded a bit harsh at first but I just can´t stand outright bashing of things I like. :-)

I wasn't bashing REX. I was being critical.

I also like REX. I've been using it since REX 2 came out. It was the first or second FS addon I have ever bought.

Thanks for the suggestion, but FSrealWX doesn't have a VATSIM weather option.

FSrealWX lite does have a Vatsim weather option. Click on FSrealWX lite in the upper left hand corner>options> general. You'll see a NOAA or Vatsim option there.

Give it a try. For free it's hard to beat

Yeah, I´m using this most of the time atm. But it always makes such a hazy condition, even when relative good weather is reported.

I guess I don´t really like criticism...  Anyways, let´s get over it!

So can anyone answer my final question about ASN...

Will ASN continue to be the "current" version for a long time? I'd hate to buy it now and ASN 2 comes out next week. Also, just to confirm, I won't be experiencing the random cloud disappearing and all the other problems I'm having with REX right now, right?

Diego, you will be fine. There is no ver 2 in the pipeline, only service packs. So for the foreseeable future, your money will be well invested. Cloud pop ups are a thing of the past with ASN. You could buy a used car off me, so trust me.

AS2012 used to give me the overspeed issue with weather changes. Opus doesn't do that to me, so if thats your concern its another option. ASN isn't the only weather engine that doesn't cause the overspeed problem, or that can use Vatsim metars.

Well that was AS2012, so...

I've heard about OpusFS as well. However I really liked the interface of ASN and the other little features it has (Like wake turbulence simulation. Does it actually work?).

ASN with the SP1 (beta). For me the best engine.

Historic in ASN is better than opus, as opus only has a 12 hour window, but ASN, I think you can go back to the days of the horse & cart.

The historic option is great when you want to go fly later on into past weather events like a TS or Hurricane!

BTW: A little OT but I have to ask! Are you a fan or is there any relationship to the group itself! I know there is Tom Evans, are you related? Either way they were a great Rock band!!!

Thanks

A big fan Tom. Even though my father is from Wales, no relation to Tom Evans. I have been following the band since the late sixties, On you tube, there is a doco (BBC) called "They Sold A Million", if you have not seen it, it is worth a watch.

Peter Ham (my avatar ) and Tom Evans were the best songwriters around at the time, and The Beatles knew that.
