April 6, 200521 yr Hi,Well, don't think I will be able to not give this product a try after all good that has been said about it. What I still do wondering about abit is how well it will work with Active Sky 2004.5 since I always flying with AS active and always with real world weather. But then again, will definitively try this product out since I find the price quite reasonable.Cheers,
April 6, 200521 yr hi WebMaximus,we tested FE2004 with all the weather programs out, payware and free ware and it works with all of them, a lot of the beta testers also used AS and thought it looked great, there are a lot of things I really like about AS4.5 build 175, but there is one thing I dont like about it, and I would love if it could be fixed. I found that AS tends to strech out the cumulus clouds. it takes the detail away from some weather settings, not just FE2004 but every cloud I ever used, do me a favor, if you try FE2004 and use AS, could you do a compairison using the FS real weather and look at the clouds and then start up AS and compaire, see if they are as puffy and whispy. If they are I would love you to share your AS settings so I can set mine up, I havent figured it out yet...spookAlso, do you know if the new AS will have the option to use chris's clouds or not, if it doesnt then obviously I wont be getting it...
April 6, 200521 yr "Can't compare the two"Of course we can compare them.... and we will, and we always do ;)(We don't want these forums to get boring, now do we?)Sounds like another great add-on for my FS "toolbox". Not so much to say one is better than the other (to me that's like saying should I fly only Boeing or Airbus?), heck I'll use both just for more variety. Same with all the clouds, and waters, and skies now available out there.I will say it's nice to see all the beta-testers out here on the front line as it is just released to help with any questions... smart move.Only problem is I'm using FS Sky World right now and I am only on the second cloud set. He's got dozens. And now you got 1900+?! Oh my Gawd.
April 7, 200521 yr Michael, you should... ;)as much as I admire Chris' clouds since after the happy days of 'big mamas' in FlyII, this one tops everything I've seen so far. And I've seen a lot, still have my disk cluttered with literaly hundreds of clouds pictures including second version of FlyII CB's which I sadly never got to finish...So yes, competition is good and thanks again to both Chris for his outstanding work and Flight1 for the 'new kid on the block' Life is good! :)Regards,Jure
April 7, 200521 yr Well I just bought this program. The clouds DO look nice but I am using activesky 4.5 and the CYYC weather is reporting BKN250. I look up in the sky and its Few MAYBE scattered at 250. Why not broken? AND i was using the FSW clouds. With the FE i am having jumping fps. up to 26 then 13 then 25 then 10. i had them steady at 25.5 with fsw clouds.
April 7, 200521 yr >Umm, what? I have to agree. It was really such a dumb statement by Anthony to mix Saddam and Allah here. FE can be an excellent add-on (all indications are that it is) but to make disparaging comments toward other developers doesn't help his cause of spreading the word.Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2 Michael J.
April 7, 200521 yr OK, now this is interesting information. Maybe someone from the FE team can comment on this? Personally, of course I want the sky conditions to look as beautiful as possible...but even more important to me is that it should look real and match the current real world weather conditions.
April 7, 200521 yr Hello, "It was really such a dumb statement by Anthony to mix Saddam and Allah here. FE can be an excellent add-on (all indications are that it is) but to make disparaging comments toward other developers doesn't help his cause of spreading the word.""but to make disparaging comments toward other developers doesn't help his cause of spreading the word."I agree 100%, they start these kind of stuff at simflight screenshots forum, promotingdefending post, go take a look, pretty scary, defending with refund policy and all these #$%$#% 2/3 weeks before the release. My freind have just take a refund.BestEric
April 7, 200521 yr Hi Eric,Did I understood your post correctly in that your friend bought FE and then returned it? If so, for what reason?Cheers,
April 7, 200521 yr I am not from the F1 team, but I can tell you that FPS cannot be different with FE installed UNLESS textures are of a different size than before. There is an option in FE to have either or both, DXT3 textures and/or smaller size textures which ease the strain on the CPU. A texture is just a file and if the clouds textures are of the same size as the ones before installing FE (default clouds, FSSky World clouds or whatever clouds), then there cannot be any FPS hit whatsoever. Period. As for the cloud coverage..., well, there are a lot of different clouds to choose from and I can say that I opted for the meanest, most dense cloud coverage I could find in FE just to test OVC conditions and the result was a tight cloud cover, as dense as I ever saw in FS2004. Occasionally I also get clouds that look different (less) to what AS is reporting, but I guess that's normal. 99.9% of time I get almost the same picture in FS as when I look out of my window. :)Just flew from EDDH - EDDM and cloudscape was breathtaking... quite accurate according to AS, too. Great job, F1!Regards,Jure
April 7, 200521 yr Thanks for your input Jure. Like I belive I said higher up in this thread, I will give this product a try since it's not that much money. Maybe I'll find the time to do it this evening and I'm looking forward to make my own opinion and see what the product offer with my own eyes.Again, thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread and my original post.
April 7, 200521 yr I haven't had any FPS problems from Flight Environment yet. As someone else mentioned the texture sizes are the same as default - and you can choose the DXT3 and lower res - so if anything you should be able to get better FPS with FE than FS9 out of the box.
