X-Plane visibility

Featured Replies

Hi there

Just downloaded the demo and then purchased X-Plane 10 global and updated it to 10.30. First impressions are that I love this sim. The only issue I seem to be having is that if I fly around 20000 feet and above then there is no ground displayed at all beyond about 20 miles. My visuals certain look nothing like the screenshots I see on the net with high flying aircraft.

If I am over mountains I get partial mountains displayed which then pop in and out of view depending how far I am from them.

Just wondering if this is normal or should I be doing some tweaking. I've got the LOD set to max but it makes no difference.

Hoping for any advice as I don't want to go back to FSX.

Thanks

Niall

It was originally supposed to be addressed in 10.30 but got pushed back to a later update.  Nothing is wrong that's unfortunately how it's supposed to be until the developers increase the distance.

Thanks for the quick reply. Just wondering what others are doing to lessen the effects of this. The only thing I can think of is to always fly with the visibility set below 20 miles. It would do for now but it is a bit unrealistic for high level work.

I grew tired of this limitation and will revisit XP once it is addressed until then I lurk in these forums; peek with admiration at some of the beautiful screenshots posted by XP users, and hope that enough progress is made to make me want to give the Sim another go.

But it's going to be heavy in the fps, I guess....

I too am looking forward for this to be addressed for quite a long time.

Another area is cloud rendering for convective clouds - I would like to have nice looking CBs. Default and even SkyMaxx Pro v2 don't yet do a good job in this area, IMO...

If it gets any heavier in the fps then I'l go back to FSX or P3D honestly, and the clouds in XP are terrible, and with 10.30 cut my fps in half when there are many on screen.

10.30 brings about 25% FPS boost , and it's not just me...

And the new visibility shouldn't hit performance too much (That's what I read when it was disccused in the blog).

BUT , XP will use much more RAM with the new visibility

Good news if the blog is accurate.  Looking forward to having more visibility.
