Just to a small amount of expectation management. This quote from the ProATC website still holds true in v2.0:

 

"PRO-ATC/X is designed to control aircraft flying under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR). So if you prefer "The Big Ones", you are for sure surfing on the right site."

is there voice in it or not,could we talk to atc or is it still button mode?

No, you cannot talk to ATC. You still have to press buttons or you could delegate COMMS to the FO, who will handle communications among other things.

To anyone interested, I am using the current version of Pro ATC with P3D version 2.4. I can't imagine that compatibility will be broken in the new version.

 

As a relatively long time user of the product, I can say that it is nice to see positive comments about the software somewhere other than on its own website.

 

I am not affiliated in any way with the program. I am a (sometimes frustrated) user. I would like to say that if the promised modifications materialize and work as expected; we will finally have a comprehensive ATC program that is easy to use. I am looking forward to that. The program was never as bad as it was made out to be. Also never as good as the fan boys proclaimed. It has flaws in its current state. But with the changes, it will IMO, be as good as it gets.

When I tried ProATC-X on a friend's PC a few months ago I had a couple of issues with it. I wonder if someone could try this...

 

1) Choose British Airways. Are you still addressed as "British Airways" or "Speedbird"?

 

2) When instructed to climb to a new FL level off early. Are you told off?

 

Are instructions to ICAO/FAA regulations? Last time I checked they weren't. I think this was accepted on the ProATC-X forum. But reality is important isn't it?

1) It will still happen, the voices are not computer generated, but human recorded. The person who recorded the voices, said British Airways instead of Speedbird. To fix this, the voices will have to be re-recorded.

 

2) I haven't tested, but I doubt it.

 

3) Instructions are not according to ICAO/FAA regulations. The instructions however are still better in v2.0 than they were before. For example "expect approach" vs "cleared for approach" is now handled correctly.

One thing to remember is, that the v2.0 contains many months of work and it is free for all ProATC users.

In its current state Proatc is not worth looking at. It's probably more unrealistic than the default atc!!

So. "if" there is an imminent release it will have to be in effect a completely new programme. For an ATC programme to work with P3D it needs to be top notch and it needs to conform to ICAO and FAA. Otherwise it's a waste of time.

There was a problem earlier with the forum software. Hopefully now fixed.

 

Providing you still have access to those who originally recorded the voice sets it should be a straight forward job to replace erroneous callsigns.

 

If an ATC program doesn't monitor what it has instructed you to do it's falling short, surely?

 

People buying an ATC program would expect correctly worded instructions to be issued. Isn't that the whole point of it? I'm trying not to be critical, just open-minded. You may have noticed my sig but I'm not trying to compare products unfavourably. Just asking questions as a prospective purchaser.

 

I see Mike Collins has said an ATC Controller is joining the team. ICAO or FAA? You will need both I would have thought.

Before I answer any more question, I just heard, that the update has been released.

I haven't found an offline ATC program that does it all. Some give taxi instructions, some assign SIDs/STARs/approaches based on navdata, some monitor your flight closely, some work with with advanced weather engines and some are still in active development.

 

I personally have have 3 different offline ATC programs installed on my system. All have their strengths and weaknesses. For me it's about selecting the one that works for a particular flight and/or your preferences.

As I haven't used P3D, I was unaware, that Lockheed requires all products to be ICAO/FAA compliant.

 

As you say, that ProATC is no better than default ATC, what things went wrong with the version, that was released today? Please report the routes and the logs to the forum so the development team can have a look. Thanks!

If an add-on works with P3D then it works! But, the whole point of P3D is as a training tool. So any ATC programme that isn't compliant is in effect false information. So LM may decide that Proatc isn't right for them!

The videos on the proatc website are still using the alphabet letters instead of the phonetic codes!!! (so no change there then!)

I didn't know, that LM can block programs working with P3D. Good to know. I will pass on the information.

The videos are 2 years old. Not yet updated. Did this also happen on your v1.4 test flights?

I am in complete agreement with you. I like P3D, but P3D snobs are just the worst. I suspect 99.9% of P3D users are just like your friends, and I am one of them!
