November 27, 201411 yr I am finding that speeding up the sim to 4x is pretty disastrous, on anything but a dead straight section of route. At this rate wild oversteering occurs on even small changes of direction. At 2x it is just about manageable. At 8x, (as suggested in the manual you can do), it simply crashes! Not good enough for long haul flights, or is it just my problem? What are others experiencing? Tony Merry Tony Merry
November 27, 201411 yr My goodness, much has been reported and a few very recently. First, be sure you are using the auto time compression and not the FSX sim rate feature. The auto time compression will slow things down to normal when banking or pitch changing. Many report problems at x8, most are okay at x4. I can run at x8 but usually don't. It depends a lot on your CPU. Dan Downs KCRP
November 27, 201411 yr What is the auto time compresión ? Thanks It's mentioned at least four times in the Introduction document. Please at least read the Intro and fly the Tutorial. Also, full names are requested in the PMDG forums. Dan Downs KCRP
November 28, 201411 yr I am finding that speeding up the sim to 4x is pretty disastrousAre you speeding up the sim thru the FSX Menu>Options>Simulation Rate or using PMDG Setup in the FMC as explained on page 96 of the Introduction Manual? It needs to be setup in the FMC. As Dan Downs wrote if it setup thru the FMC, time acceleration will revert to normal prior to turns, step climbs, rough weather, and etc. Michael Cubine
November 28, 201411 yr Author Hi Guys Thanks for the usual prompt response to a query. What would we do without the forums! As you guessed I had been using the FSX time compression, not the PMDG one. I will now try the proper way and hopefully the problem will be solved. Many thanks. tony Merry Tony Merry
November 28, 201411 yr Hi Guys, I am thoroughly enjoying flying both 777LR & ER , absolutely excellent aircraft, however, I believe I am getting a problem using time compression, although using the recommended manual method, on two occasions while making a European to stateside flight my computer has froze on me....annoyingly 80% into the flights, I have been monitoring VAS usage through Peter Dowson's software which has shown I have at least 1GB free VAS just prior to freeze up, freeze up happening while at times 4 speed. I'm also pretty selective using the time compression reverting to normal time at heading changes, although the manual does not deem it necessary. Any thoughts appreciated. Windows 7, Intel i7 2600, 3.4Ghz, Nvidia GTX 580, 8Gb Corsair memory
November 28, 201411 yr Any thoughts appreciated. Is it a crash to desktop (CTD) or a freeze for 5-10 minutes (appHang)? A CTD will have a Windows error message, and that helps sometimes while an appHang can be difficult to track down. There is a section in the Introduction on FSX Freezes. Also, I think you could have started a new topic for wider audience and please note that full names are requested in PMDG forums. Dan Downs KCRP
November 28, 201411 yr I'm also pretty selective using the time compression reverting to normal time at heading changes, although the manual does not deem it necessary. You don't need to change to normal rate for heading changes. The 777 will do it automatically if time compression/acceleration is setup correctly in the FMC. Michael Cubine
November 28, 201411 yr Hello Dan, Thanks for your input its not a CTD, just a freeze up ,with no error messages or OOM's, to be honest I have never stayed with the sim to ascertain if its temporary or not. Regards MichaelKing Thank you Michael, I am aware any inputs from me time compression is managed by the software. Michael King
November 28, 201411 yr I have never stayed with the sim to ascertain if its temporary or not. Stay with it and see if the freeze "thaws." It might take up to 10 min., if so be sure to review Introduction pg 0.00.35 and try the recommendation to add JOBSCHEDULER line to your fsx.cfg. I had this problem until I went from VISTA to Win7 and updated CPU from Core2 quad to i7 quad with multithreading. I think the problem was how the OS was handling multiple cores/threads. It has not happened in a little over a month of extensive use with my rebuild. Good luck. Dan Downs KCRP
November 28, 201411 yr Thanks for your comments Dan, If and when I get a freeze again, I'll do as you suggest and let it hopefully thaw. Many thanks for pointing me to Intro 0.00,35, which I had not taken on board, even though PMDG had taken the trouble to explain this issue in the manual.............whose got a red face? Many Thanks Michael King
November 29, 201411 yr Commercial Member whose got a red face? I wouldn't worry about it. Many people ignore it, and several get red faced with anger if you ever do something as "disrespectful" as tell someone that they should go read it. Kyle Rodgers
