Anyone tried REX Lattitude?

Featured Replies

I got Latitude when it was released, did a few flights with it and then mothballed it. It does what is advertised, but it is really meticulous. Someone else (sorry, no source) aptly described it as "it is like a super-critical flight instructor who puts a cap of coffee in the cockpit and says 'if it spills, you fail' ". It really depends on what your are looking for, but I personally wasn't enjoying it. As Simair won't be released anytime soon (according to the developer on the REX forum), there is not much to say about it.

1.  [FSCaptain] Doesn't recognize the state of the seat belts toggle--no matter what I do the FO tells me to turn on the belts sign (before you can assign the task to FO, i.e. when about to pushback).

That probably depends on the plane you are using. I suggest to bring this up on the FSCaptain support forum at http://fscaptain.proboards.com/

I had a very stable and OOM-free P3D for a very long time until the past week when I installed 3 new add ons:  Accu-Feel, FSDT's Hawaiian Airports, & FSCaptain all around the same time.

I was a very happy FSPassengers user until I got more and more FSX stability problems with modern addon planes (PMDG, Majestic, ..). I switched to FSCaptain and had no airplane-related CTDs anymore since. It also uses very little resources, so I would be surprised if that was the reason.

However, I recently installed FSDT's PHNL and it caused problems with all my sceneries. I then uninstalled and reinstalled it, which eliminated all issues. Now it is one of my favorite destinations :)

It's a little bit different than FS Passengers as you don't micro manage things like when to serve food etc.  FS Captain is more focused on the roles a captain and FO in the cockpit.  There is some interaction though as you can give a welcome announcement after boarding, alert the crew for T/O and Landing, manage the belts during turbulence etc. Accurate position reporting and staying on schedule is really the goal though however you will be graded on each flight and passenger opinion weighs into that.

I think about the most positive thing I could say here is that the majority of people I have spoke with (on web forums, in my VA, etc. ) who have used both seem to prefer FS Captain.  I know I feel this way strongly and have not used passengers for several years now simply because IMO and for the type of flying I do; I prefer FSCaptain.

There is a website for it you can visit for more information and I believe the manual is also available for review in a .pdf download.

Good Luck,

Robert

Hey Robert,

I'm having problems getting winds aloft data to report in the FCDU.  I think it may load at startup, then if weather in my weather engine, REX E+ updates, perhaps it's then I lose it, not certain yet.  This is a problem others have had but no answers yet w/ the new post on their forum.  Ideas?

ADDENDUM:  I think I got it now--had it set up wrong in Administrator so looks good now ;o)

The main reason is that I had briefly read the gauge version is harder on performance from one person's comment.  Do you find this not to be the case?  Yes I'm pretty sure it was the FSDT HA's that did it for me.   I've completed 3 flights since uninstalling and thankfully am getting nowhere near an OOM as was the case prior to installing these.  The HA's had a known other problem that killed simulator performance which was fixed in a subsequent version of P3D V2, so I thought I'd see how that went and indeed that issue was solved, but alas the VAS depletion issue appears to be tied to that add-on.  The other reason was that I didn't not want to commit to installing gauges per plane until I was sure I wanted to use FSCaptain, which I now am very happy to have found ;o)

The gauge costs me no FPS in P3D.

Yes indeed, I tried it and all's well.  I really love this program!!!  If I could just get fuel to load now, this is the only thing I haven't figured out how to fix.

You will never get fuel to load correctly if you are trying to do it with the PMDG.   You need to suppress Fuel Auto-Load in the Administrator panel for your PMDG aircraft.

Here's what I do when flying an airplane like the NGX which has its own loading system.  I just configure FSCaptain to suppress auto loading and fuel loading for the airplane, but to simulate the load so the PAX board at a normal pace. Then I use the PMDG menus to load the aircraft with PAX, fuel and cargo to match up to the Dispatch Release, which is visible on the Kneeboard under the briefing section once you login to dispatch with the FCDU.

The numbers wont exactly match up every time, but that's not a problem.  In the real world things aren't always smooth on the numbers either.  Once you PROCEED from the loading page if the numbers in the airplane don't match the expectations on the load sheet (likely!) you'll be shown a 'reconciliation' page.  There you have a choice to telling dispatch that the airplane's numbers are correct, or the manifest is correct.  In the case of PMDG or others that have their own loader just say the aircraft is correct.  The system will juggle the numbers on the manifest and load sheet to match and you are CLEARED FOR DEPARTURE.

Have a nice flight...

Nope I am a P3D user so don't use PMDG.  I did however discover how to use the Import feature for load maps and voila, it's working!  Thanks for the reply...

I'm guilty as charged for not reading the full information--for starts the User Guide did not arrive w/ the product, only the Tutorial, so I missed a lot.  Having found the User Guide I have discovered a few things like this so that now I'm fully good to go!

I wonder if there are other voice packs?   Be nice to have a little variety there, which was a nicety in FSPax.   Enjoyed the Euro voices when flying in Canada & Europe.

The User Guide should be in a Documentation folder in the FSCaptain folder.

We have several voice packs in the works.  I like variety too.

Thank you Dutch-I only looked on the Win 7 start menu where under FSCaptain there is no shortcut as there is for the Tutorial for example.

Awesome.   I love having good voice packs.    Oh, Dutch, I edited two of the sound files in the main directory because they were generating some horrible Pop/Clicks.  It's the bgair.wav and the keymike.wav file.  There was a wicked pop in the audio data that seemed unnatural and hurt my ears so I fixed it.   If you'd like to hear it and want to put it in the installation I'd be happy to e-mail the audio to you.    Also, is there anyway you guys can record the audio of the FA crew a bit louder?   They are really hard to hear in the PMDG cockpit a lot of the times, at least during phases of flight.    GREAT product though.  Sorry I didn't jump on board sonner.

Sure email them to me.  And how would YOU like to be an FO?  There's a voice chart and all it takes is a mike, recording software (default Sound Recorder will do) and you can make yourself immortal as an FSCaptain FO :)

I am actually already doing one for the FO and for male FA.   :)  I'll send those packs up once I am happy with the audio quality.   I'll get those cleaned up files to you ASAP for the popping.   This only corrected the two main files.  Some of the speech files used the original keymike.wav file as a background sound while they talk.   Those are a little harder to fix and since you don't hear them but during certain events I just left them be.

Nice Brian I'd love to try your packs as well, might inspire me to break out my mike and the old SB Wave studio Software.  I made a set for myself and used it with FS passengers several years ago and it turned out great.  I had my wife read the flight attendant  script in both English & Korean since that's her native language and it was really convincing on flights to and from Korea.  It was a shame I lost it in a hard drive crash...should have burned it to disc for backup; live and learn.

I am trying to get a friend of mine that has a really cute voice to do the FA announcements for me while I do the FO.   I would load 50 speech packs on my PC because I like variety.  XD

As good as FSCaptain is the glaring deficiency is not only the lack of variety, but the voices just don't sound very convincing.  But that is content that is easily changed.  The architecture and execution is great though--the whole thing.  Just the voices are funky.
