Adding a GPS unit

Featured Replies

Has anyone figured out how to add an aftermarket radio/gps in the space that is taken up by the COM1/NAV1 radio?

Using the control panel, I can remove this radio... but I have not found a way of installing another gauge in it's place.

I am looking for an answer to this also. Since the original post is over a year old I'm guessing this is hopeless. I can get the F1 GTN 650 into the VC where Com1/Nav1 are (with the 3D knobs on top of it), but as soon as I choose "customizable panel" to make the 3D knobs disappear the GTN 650 disappears also. I've tried a bunch of things but nothing seems to work.

I had this aircraft in FSX and after switching to P3D decided to try it again. I was excited to find the "customizable panel" option figuring I could easily install the GTN 650 into the VC but there doesn't appear to be any way to actually do it.

Anybody with an answer to this one? Just recently picked up the AC11 since I'm flying one in RL also and would love to add the 650 to it.

Better then nothing I think:
GTN625 for GNS295

GTN625_1_zpsqh79y053.jpg

to operate have to open popup window

panel.cfg in [VCockpit02] :
...
gauge07=F1GTN!GTN650VC,  30,229,350,250,UNIT1

By modifying AC11.cab (from fsx/gauges) the file
Toggle_GPS.xml
into:

Quote

<Gauge Name="Toggle_GPS" Version="1.0">
   <Image Name="iconpanel_background.bmp"/>
   <Mouse>
      <Area Left="0" Top="0" Width="30" Height="30">
         <Cursor Type="Hand"/>
         <Click>14403 (>K:PANEL_ID_TOGGLE)</Click>
      </Area>
   </Mouse>
</Gauge>

we can now open GTN625 popup with clicking in its touchscreen.

Regards

Stefan

I am in contact with Carenado, about this. I think we are out of luck. I am thinking that the custom panel is just a modification  of the model ie, the cover for the  default 296 gps. I am  waiting to see what Carenado has to say. I can't find a custom panel cfg file. So that is why I'm thinking it is just a modification of the model file.

So I think we are stuck with the 2d pop-ups for the use of other radios  in the Commander 114.

The Commander 114 is now a default aircraft in Prepar3D as of v4.4.

Probably just a pipe dream but perhaps they addressed the issue before it was accepted by Lockheed Martin?

Darn! I came here hoping to find some good news about the custom panel in 4.4.... If Bert can't make it work, then there's probably no way in the world we can cram a 750 in there. 🙂

I am currently looking at this.. the best I have found is the GTN650 option.

In the VC:

[Vcockpit02]
.....
//gauge07=GPS295AC11!gps_295,  13,200,468,304
gauge07=F1GTN!GTN650VC,  13,200,468,304,UNIT1

The popup:

[Window00]
......

//gauge00=GPS295AC11!gps_295,  0,0,545,354
gauge00=F1GTN!GTN650,  0,0,545,354,UNIT1.POP
//gauge01=AC11!Toggle_GPS,  36,74,330,239

You can choose the custom panel on or off, which simply removes the NAV1/COM1 radios.

Better might be to move the GTN down to where the radios are, but that does not appear to be possible..

I would be glad only to get rid of the default GPS and it seems it is away in the screenshots...
