FSX Steam and Level-D Installation

Ok Mike all working now. I used the legacy simconnect for Sp1, and works a treat, Thank you!

Glad to be of help!

I thought that might be the problem since you have a separate installation of FSX:SE and I have a dual install, so the simconnect dlls were already on my system (they are in a subfolder of Windows, winsxs, not in a folder specific to either FSX, so either FSX will pick them up if they are installed).

There are still some issues about where the Level-D is saving and loading panel states when a flight is restarted, but IMHO these are not major obstacles.  They may not affect you since you have a single installation of FSX:SE - the various Level D program files can't be instructed to point to various correct subfolders but in your case it may not matter since there is only one set of folders.

  • I am unable to get this thing to work. Thought it was a problem with EZdok. After installing the 767, I get some simconnect warnings and FSX just hangs and refuses to start up (everything is properly

To sum up:

FSX:MS=original MS version of FSX

FSX:SE=Steam version of FSX

1) Run the installer for the Level D 767 and then for the Winglets version, pointing them to the main FSX:SE folder, typically

...\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FSX

2)  See if it works by loading the aircraft in the usual way.  Make sure all the gauges are showing up and working.

3) If it does not, find the DLL.XML file, found in a typical installation at:

C:\Users\[Your Name]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX-SE.  You might want to back up your DLL.XML file in FSX:SE just to be on the safe side.

You can open and edit it with Notepad.  This is most likely missing with a dual FSX:MS and FSX:SE install on the same computer.  If it does not have the following entry, copy and paste the following immediately after similar entries that should be there:

<Launch.Addon>
    <Name>Level-D Simulations</Name>
    <Disabled>False</Disabled>
    <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
    <Path>Modules\LVLD.dll</Path>
  </Launch.Addon>

4)  Try it again.

5)  If it still doesn't work, you need to install "legacy" simconnect dlls (probably missing if you don't have a dual FSX:MS and FSX:SE installation).

Go to:

...\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\LegacyInterfaces

There you should see three subfolders.  Each one has a "SimConnect.msi" file in it.  For each folder, click on the "SimConnect.msi" file in it to install that version of simconnect.    It is safe to install all of them, and indeed may make other addons work as well.  You can also see which SimConnects are installed on your computer by looking in Control Panel - Remove Programs.

For further information on SimConnect, please take a look at:

see especially post#9,
http://forum.avsim.n...nect-v61612590/

specifically on FSX:SE, post #19:
http://forum.avsim.n...y-thread/page-2

There are still some issues w/ how the 767 saves and loads flights, but these are not deal-breakers for me.

Thanks to Chalkman for his input!

Mike, just to let you know with your help, installing the level D in FSX-SE  had no problems. In fact after the install I was able to then copy and paste all my FSX add-on planes and other LVLD goodies over to SE.

I think the key was making sure you edited the DLL.xml file as you suggested.

My next chore is to try to get Airbus 320/21-ext. into FSX-SE.

Thanks,

Carl

Unforutnately none of the above suggestions have worked for me. Using Windows 8.1 as well.

After multiple attempts I can actually get past loading (after 5 minutes) but then the virtual cockpit is washed out and glowing white while also frozen.

Sorry, Lenny, I am not running FSX (either one) on Windows 8.  Perhaps this is a problem that is not specific to FSX:SE?  Maybe someone in the Windows 8 forum can help.

LevelD 767 don´t work on win8 because the Flight1 DRM system, not because the plane itself. What should be corrected  is the f1 anti-piracy system.

Hello Guys, it is my first post on this forum but I am an active observator :) It is not good that my activity on the forum I start making a problem not giving a solution :/

I would like to refresh this topic. A LVLD.dll problem caught me too :/ The problem is, In a nutshell:

After reinstall the whole FSX SE I decided to install this great machine. Installation goes fine and problem starts when I launch the FSX. On the Splash screen appears error info:

********************************************

Flight Simulator has detected a problem w/ a third party software program(add-on):
Name: Level D Simulations B767-300 add-on for Flight Simulator
Version: Release 1.42a
Company: Level D Simulations Panels for Flight One Publishing
File: Module\LVLD.dll

Do you want to run this software(not recommended)?

To avoid seeing this message in future, uninstall this program or disable its ability to start
when running Flight Simulator. For more info about third party problems, contact the publisher or see http:/www.fsinsider.com

***********************************************

When I click "Yes" then FSX SE crashes if "No" it runs correctly but after click on LevelD a/c in a/c manu appears another error about panel and FSX guess what? Yes! crashes too :/

I have searched a solution in other forums but solutions do not work for me. I mean solutions like: check/change/delete DLL.xml, "run as administrator, change FSX.cfg.

I just reinstalled FSX and before LevelD had worked fine. I did not install any new software and change windows just reinstall FSX SE (I have a stand alone version)

I have been playing FS9 and FSX from many years and this problem affects me for the first time :/

Best regards,

Derek

I too had the same issues but in the end managed to get it installed successfully in FSX-SE. But abandoned Level-D 767-300ER when I kept getting repeated freeze-ups on long flights when no matter how much I clicked on the VC, it just froze, so I uninstalled it completely. I'm done with this aircraft.

Hi, Derek,

I get that message too, but when I click "Yes" to run the software I don't get a crash. Clicking "No" will stop activation

of the Level-D dll file and the 767 won't run, as you found out.

One thing you didn't mention: did you run all three legacy simconnect.msi installation files? You might have deleted some

or all simconnects with a new instalation of Steam. Location of these is described in opening (green) post in this thread.

Installation or reinstallation is harmless to your system AFAIK.

I don't recommend deleting dll.xml. Unlike the fsX.cfg file it won't rebuild. It is modified by addon installers and you

would have to run all of them again or the other addons won't work. (Same for exe.xml.)

If installation of the simconnects does not work, try moving the entry for the Level-D up or down in the entry list in dll.xml.

Be sure to back it up first!

Rick,

Honestly, I haven't flown the Level-D very much in FSX:SE so I haven't experienced this problem. There have been reports that

the aircraft won't work properly in Windows 10 and possibly even in Windows 8. I have Windows 7.

I forgot to mention, yes, it is happening in Windows 10 Pro. In Windows 7, I vaguely recall it worked fine, but the last year and a bit, I had moved platforms to P3D, where of course, it did not work and I abandoned it.

From what I've read, the security features of the installer prevent proper operation in Windows 10.  I'm surprised you were able to get it running at all!

It would be nice if Level-D updated for recent versions of Windows.  I don't know what their policy is about P3D, which for some companies opens up a whole new can of worms.

Best,

Mike

Oh, yes, I did have it running in Windows 10, but gave up after repeated VC freeze-ups, or entire seize-ups.

Level-D 763 was good in its day when single CPUs dominated. In today's 4-core set-ups, it is a bit past its sell-by-date. That developer is going nowhere forwards, so have called time on it.

I fully agree, it'd be nice to get updated. But will it? I very much doubt it.

Hi guys,

Yeah I did everything to run this a/c and I decided to end my cooperation with LevelD, I just bought B767 CS (with -200 and Freighter extensions) and it looks much better and flies very good.

Unfortunately, I could not handle this problem :/ Maybe someday, someone will find the ultimate solution ;)
