February 1, 201511 yr Hi, I have for a long time now suffered from what we call stutter or lag when turning, pauses etc like many of this forurm. I have certainly tried all the suggestions and tweaks available. Also have had many OOM problems. I have completed at least 4 flights without OOM. What happened I can't really say except to tell you what I think happened. I stopped using My traffic which was working normally for me in P3D. Did this stop the OOM. Don't know. Then I tried this. Keep in mind this was for stuttering problems with X plane NOT P3D. Read carefully:Heart and Soul of our fix is simple: ROLL DRIVERS BACK to nVidia 337.88 WHQL (Windows Hardware Quality Lab Certified driver) May 26, 2014 available here. This step is VERY important. You do NOT have to uninstall your current nVidia drivers to install this older driver. Just download the file and run it. Tech explanation: Nvidia has been optimizing for Direct X, NOT OpenGL in their most-recent driver releases, the 377.88 driver appears to be the one best-suited to OpenGL which is what drives XPlane 10. Some folks in this thread have said that the newer 9-series cards from NVidia will require a NEWER driver than this one. The nVidia website will ask you to select your gpu series, then model, and 'search' and you will be presented with a list of compatible drivers. If you're having issues as described here, try selecting the oldest COMPATIBLE WHQL driver in the list for your specific graphics card. DO NOT select a 'beta' driver. Right click on any empty spot on your desktop and then left-click on nVidia CONTROL PANEL. Click on the left side of the nVidia control panel 3-D Settings Under the GLOBAL SETTINGS tab, there is a setting "Multi-Display/mixed GPU acceleration". If you use only ONE monitor for EACH PC, select Single PC performance mode. The very next setting is Power management mode, change to Prefer Maximum Performance. Near the bottom of the Global Settings window is Vertical Refresh Rate, select Adaptive (use half refresh rate). This will lock your frames at 30fps. Even though your video card (in our case nVidia GTX 770 and nVidia Titan) is capable of much much higher rates, because we both are using triple computers to drive 3 separate monitors, the goal is to have all three screens in perfect sync with no 'break apart' of the image. Setting frames to 30 on all 3 PCs results in optimal smoothness and synchronization between all three monitors. Finally: REPEAT these steps on each PC that is driving a monitor in your xPlane setup. I did exactly what is described here. The only thing is I use 1 computer and 1 monitor. I can tell you this. On my system my stutters are gone. I was able to move the sliders up to almost full. I use opus weather and rex soft clouds. The sim is smooth. I also run unlimited frames but even when the frames decrease in heavy weather or dense scenery the sim remains smooth. What is happening here I don't really know. I do know that P3D ver 2.4 has never worked as well for me. Your results may be different I don't know. As I said I have had NO OOM errors since trying this and the taking My Traffic out of the equation. I use the default traffic. Maybe somone can try this and post their results. I would be very interested to know. Use at your own risk and back up Cheers Nels
February 1, 201511 yr Thank you, I will try it when I am back at home, but I already read that "Vertical Refresh Rate, select Adaptive (use half refresh rate)" doesnt work in P3D but in FSX it does. Anyway I will give a try. Thanks
February 1, 201511 yr Author Hi, I also read that to, many times. Maybe it's not that, but it dosen't have seemed to have broke anything
February 2, 201511 yr Author Well, still no stutters and I have My Traffic back in the equation and NO OOM. I just installed Orbx Norway and will do some flights with that. I usually jump in when a new P3d update comes along but this time ver 2.5 NOT. It has taken me too long fighting OOM and stutters to give this up now that it is working as it should. Time to fly and enjoy the sim finally. It will have to be a fantastic update and I just don't see it coming. Just problem, problem and more tweaking. Just too frustrating Nelson
February 4, 201511 yr I'l try this. I have very high frames in P3D but the experience feels much less smooth than FSX, even with a Titan and a $1200 i7 3970X... | Ben Weston www.airline2sim.com
February 4, 201511 yr Well, I have to agree very smooth in FSX... but also I get good frames in P3D but it stutters...well some user see the stuutters some do not, and they bother some user ...like me and not others..each to their own. The issue I think is because of lack of NI support re VSynch so the half Adaptive has no effect. in P3D because of the way the full screen is projected via a large window rather than true full screen. I cannot believe NVidia have still not produced a profile for P3D and until this happens if ever, I have parked P3D....but watch with interest as it has some great features.. All the best
February 4, 201511 yr I don't know what you guys are doing but I never experienced any stutter in P3D. I didn't have to tweak the .cfg or play around with the Nvidia control panel. On top of playing, I often record using Shadowplay. That's with my ORBX addons. BTW, I am using the latest Nvidia drivers. https://fsprocedures.com Your home for all flight simulator related checklist.

February 4, 201511 yr Consider your selves very, very lucky because a lot do have these stutter issues for whatever reason they exsist or did Nelson I don't deny you have an issue but maybe it is because you have tinker with your config too much ? Or you have a specific addon like a weather or traffic injector that cause that micro stutter. It could be your monitor that can't deal with lower FPS. https://fsprocedures.com Your home for all flight simulator related checklist.
February 4, 201511 yr Hello! Thank you very much for the guidelines..I will follow. However, what about users that have newer nvidia cards like me with the GTX970?
