Not sure what you mean here, you have all 4 DDR4 RAM cards in their appropriate slots for Quad channel (manual will show you want slot pairs to use) but should look like my pics in this thread.

Great picture and rig you should post more of it

In particular, you might like to look at paragraph 11 which starts with the word 'Unfortunately'. I was a tad wary about increasing the CPU Strap to 125MHz and it was this revelation that persuaded me down the automatic route while leaving the Base Clock at 100MHz.

4.4 to 4.5 is a good overclock for the H110i ... I run 4.3 to 4.6 pending the scenery I load (cough cough Orbx SoCal).  The 125Mhz CPU strap and how well that works is very much dependent on the RAM used.

BTW, no problem running my 3960X at 1.5v so long as one has sufficient cooling (VRM,CPU,Chipset) ... my CPU rarely hits 50C which is well below it's thermal protection.

Either way, you're happy and that's a good thing!  Ultimately all that matters is keeping the timeframe value as consistent as possible - that provides the smoothest experience.

You might want to experiment with HT OFF ... that has free'd up in some cases 400MB VAS (guessing some duplicate thread thrashing was going on) and improved FPS (less threads to manage by the main thread).

Cheers, Rob.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for responding. It's always nice to have the Master's approval :) I must say I've learned a great deal from this experience. The H110i GT does do a good job, but can get quite noisy as the CPU temp rises. Fortunately, although I've seen brief blips as high as 45C, the average seems to be around 40C. The a/c engine noise on speakers tends to mask the background noise from the radiator fans. Using Headphones makes it all seem rather academic. Goodness knows how loud the fans would be at higher temps! Looks like I've found a satisfactory compromise as the system is nearly silent outside 'gaming' activities. I imagine your superb water-cooling solution circumvents unwelcome side issues like this with impressive aplomb. Actually, I haven't yet reinstated the two side panels of the HAF X case which is still sitting on my workshop bench in the basement of our house. Perhaps this will improve the air flow along with the introduction of that additional 200x30mm fan.

I am running on all 8 physical cores with Hyper-threading OFF in the UEFI BIOS and NO Affinity Mask applied. With Hyper-threading ON and NO Affinity Mask the noise must approach being unbearable under full load. By way of contrast, the GPU fans (2/GPU) are very quiet even when the two STRIX GTX980s are running at 99%. However the H110i GT probably drowns out any noise from the GTX980 fans. It's nice to see the fans switch off under light load and lower temps.

Best regards,

Mike

Hi Martin,

Yes, I have been thinking about it but, until your post popped up, remained unsure what to go for. Thank you, the Noctua NF-A14 PWM fan appears to be exactly what is needed. Reviews are also very encouraging. I've ordered a couple and, being a true Scot, will have to wait patiently for a few days as I chose the Standard delivery/free postage option from Amazon ;)

Again, many thanks for the suggestion and recommendation, I appreciate it.

Regards,

Mike

Hope they work out great for you Mike.

I'm a fan [if you pardon the pun] of Noctua fans.  In fact I have no less than 5 waiting for my new build.
