The Prepar3d PMDG 777 is a MUST OWN

I have P3D 2.5, yet despite giving me a high FPS, I have stutters on my system.  Having spent the money already on the FSX PMDG 777 and giving the subpar performance of P3D 2.5, I am not eager to spend more to stay in one place.  I am sure P3D is wonderful for others, so good for them, just not for me.  I wish that PMDG has a Flight 1 refund policy, but forking out nearly 100 bucks to try is too much.  Right now my best performer sim is FSX-SE, no stutters no OOM.

Issues like these are usually solved by simply adjusting the sliders in the program.

Hi sebyh,

this is what I know, so we can compare infos :)

Dovetail regarding Flight Simulation has focused on :

1) environment i.e. like trees, water, sky, clouds, persons, bridges etc. using Unreal Engine 4 ( perhaps 32 bit compatible within DX11 )

2) 3d modelling of external and internal stuff

but Dovetail has recognized to be dramatically not able to master :

1) ILS, VOR, ADF, RNAV, SID and STARS etc.

2) they also seem to have absolutely no clue on how to implement a working ATC other than trying to " reproduce " FSX's lame one

So, considering producing arcade flight games is not a rewarding path ( i.e. MS Flight... ) Dovetail decided to drop the Flight Simulation path in favor of Fishing games and Rail Simulator series, they are far more easy to master, they already have a decent amount of knowledge and that's the best way to stay within their budget.

Dovetail is a " small " company and it definitely cannot afford to rent for several months senior consultants experts of Flight Simulation ( AKA as real Boeing/Bus pilots ) , real ATC senior advisors and enigineers experts of professional flight ( to master ILS, VOR, ADF, RNAV, SID and STARS etc ) therefore now Dovetail is deciding if :

1) go on producing an arcade game like MS Flight to minimize the loss of the purchase of the rights to distribute FSX SE

2) completely drop the project and focus on easy games like Fishing Games ( where few real retired man and fishmen can deploy for free suggestions on how to properly fish tunas or trouts )

We are lucky PMDG is active, it gives us lot of " PROFESSIONAL " fun !!  B)

If only PMDG would produce a Flight Simulator........pure 64 bits.....we would have the most sophisticated piece of software ever seen in the simulation field

Hey Mark you seem to know a lot more than  what I know. I will keep using FSX with the DX10 fixer for now and wait and see how things pan out.

I will do the same, except that my old rig really can't go beyond DX9 within FSX.

I have also been a tester ( like many of us here btw ) of MS Flight and I have learnt to know Joshua Howard, the men responsible for having killed the potential of MS Flight, this is anyway another story.

I wish Dovetail a bright future but I am under the impression it won't come under the Flight simulation umbrella.

Let's hope Mr. Randazzo will go crazy and start to develop a brand new 64bits Flight simulation...after all here there is plenty of experts and we have also real pilots....we are really extremely lucky and Mr. Randazzo could have free of charge support in case of of....ok I quit dreaming.... ^_^

Thanks Kyle.  My P3Dv2 settings are already very close to that post, but I did not know about the affinity mask item. I definitely will give it a try.

I have the 777 in P3D and FlyTampa Toronto; possibly the 2 most demanding items in their respective categories. Sitting at the gate at CYYZ in the 777, I get about 18.5 FPS with 820MB of VAS remaining. That's without Active Sky Next. That eats another 3 - 4 frames. I want more, but I have to realize I am using the creme de al creme of addons IMHO. This can all be debated, and has; but nothing is free. Accuracy requires calculation and eye candy needs memory in which to reside. Just park at a west coast airport and measure VAS with Orbx PNW and without. The difference in available VAS is significant, as is the difference in quality of the scenery.

I am not connected, nor am I technically advanced. But I am looking forward to a 64 bit simulator written to make use of DirectX 12. It seems to me that when developers can write their software without fear of using up address space and be able better utilize available hardware to improve performance; we will see a new world. That will not be a small undertaking. I can't imagine there are too many software environments that are as complex as a flight simulator.

You're welcome - depending on the machine, the affinity mask can make quite a difference!
