WX Radar Guide?

Recommended Posts

So I read all about the Collins WX Radar in the FCOM but where do I find out how to use it on the line?

Join an airline as a pilot > get given a study guide > get ground schooled > get practical training > get proficiency checked every so often.

otherwise just youtube it... youtube's good. Pretty sure Kyle made a video on WXR for the 777. The lessons are transferable.

Plenty of great resources online -- Airbus have a great summary of how weather radars work, tilt, gain and recommended settings for different phases of flight: http://www.airbus.com/fileadmin/media_gallery/files/safety_library_items/AirbusSafetyLib_-FLT_OPS-ADV_WX-SEQ07.pdf

Also this document looking at tilt: http://code7700.com/radar_tilt.html

Thanks Kyle!

Welcome! I should probably go back and edit all of those to make them a little more professionally done, but I've been so busy lately...

Nice find!

Thanks

No worries! Hope it's useful. Hopefully one day we'll have more of the subtleties -- like ground returns and storm shadows -- which, as those two links demonstrate, in the real world are key to 'reading' the radar picture and working out which returns are just rain and which are really nasty.
